There are a heap of really cheap ($100 - $150) Android tablets around but I have a specific desire for one with Bluetooth and NONE of the cheap tablets seem to have it!

Does anyone know of any 7" Android tablets with at least 800*480 res, Android 4.x, Wifi, Bluetooth and a decently bright screen? Not so concerned about speed or storage.

FYI the application is a digital dash hooked via Bluetooth to a high precision GPS device and the ECU using some specific software to create a digital dash and data logger.

I'm not afraid of ordering offshore either... Just after pointers to something with Bluetooth (that's not a big brand name tablet for $500!)

Cheers - N

Have you considered the Nexus 7? You can get one from Google play via a service like YouShop for like $280~ all up including shipping (I think). Else the cheapest I've ever seen it in NZ was during boxing day last year at $330~ or so from Dick Smith.

Although it costs more than those cheap Chinese tablets, it includes bluetooth and should be able to run your applications smoothly with its quad core Tegra 3 processor.

My experience with the cheap Chinese tablets isn't the best. Their build quality is poor, are quite easily breakable and are rather laggy/frustratingly slow most of the time (this is from a tablet that has an Allwinner A10 CPU clocked at 1Ghz). My father uses one as an e-reader and he's already on his 3rd tablet within the time span of a year.

HP Slate7 has Bluetooth and will be USD $169 when it goes on sale in the states in april. When it goes on sale in NZ, it is expected to have a "starting price of NZD $229 for the 8GB Model."

Dual Core 1.6 GHz Cortex-A9, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage, microSD storage expansion, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/b, Bluetooth 2.1 and Android 4.1. The display is 1024 x 600 resolution which should meet your needs. Will have to read some more reviews or wait until it gets out here to comment on brightness.

The Nexus 7 might be a little better for a little more money, unless you need microSD storage expansion, in which case the HP Slate7 is the better option.

I think Bluetooth comes with a license fee attached. It isn't an Open Source technology.

Have you tried adding a bluetooth dongle with the USB host cable or do you need that for something else?
