I had this issue last week, neice dropped the HTC One X and the screen shattered so before I factory reset it to send it to be repaired I copied all my contacts from the phone (mostly in SIM) to the gmail account.

For me, I think from within people menu I copied contacts and an option appeared phone/sim/google. I selected google and away it went. I didnt have my contacts setup to automatically sync to gmail, I had to do it specifically.

Regarding the apps, when I reset my phone in the past after entering gmail settings on the reset phone, I went to market and it had a list of all the apps I had previously installed/bought and I just selected which ones I wanted to reinstall. - was surprised that some of the app data was reinstalled too. Not sure how I feel about that as it suggest that google has my app data files too.

Currently I am using an HTC hero until the One X is fixed. When I added my gmail login to this phone when I went to the apps store it just listed the (fewer) apps that are compatible with this older phone.

A.

Thanks - the contacts I could copy to the phone and set it once for Google Account.  Easy.  By default it saves to the Phone's Memory.  Lost my SMS history will try my LG software backup if that works.  I found a few apps didn't transfer over even when I reset/moved back to the same phone but the majority reinstalled for me.

Hi all. Going on a bit further with this. When I bought my Nexus 4 a couple of months ago I gave my wife my old SGS2 which had all my fone contacts synced in Gmail. After I ran up the SGS2 for her I noticed that her fone contacts were not in Gmail. Reading this thread explained why so I copied all her contacts to the SD card and imported them back to user@gmail.com and all her contacts have the Gmail tag. Try as I may and by using manual sync I can't get these contacts to sync to Gmail. As an exercise I did the same for my mother-in-laws Telecom Y300 and they synced to Gmail fine. As I want to get a Nexus 5 when they come out and passing my old N4 to my wife I want some way of getting her contacts across apart from copying them to the SIM card which has a very limited contact format.

Would importing them to Gmail directly from the export file in her fone guarantee that when the N4 is run up with her Gmail account that they would be imported back in to the fone as they were when I first ran it up on my account?/

Thanx in advance.

Regards,

Old3eyes
