stravs: Hi Guys,

Quick question regarding the Z1 and networks.

Will the new Z1 work on both Telecom and vodafone?

Also will it work in the US, UK and Europe? (travelling there next year)

Also will the above answers differ between 2g 3g and 4g?

Thanks

If you buy an unlocked Z1 from overseas then it will work on any of the carriers here in New Zealand

It will also work on the carriers in the UK and Europe, only country where you will have issues is the USA

4G roaming is generally not supported anyway so you won't have the issue.

I just recently experimented this with my Z1 on Vodafone UK roaming in Amsterdam om Vodafone NL, could only get 3G service, 4G roaming is not possible yet.

So unless you change the SIM card when going to the US there is no point in having a phone that supports US 4G frequencies...

Thanks for the info guys,

I was going to be in the US for 22days so was going to get a local sim.

Thanks again for your help on the frequencies.

I currently have an HTC One however I am now starting to run out of storage. I cant really install any big apps, let alone the 1GB+ games Gameloft offers. I have movies on my HTC One which I could remove, but I don't really want to do that.

I am thinking about buying a Sony Xperia Z1. I feel as if though it will be a bit of a downgrade however. Theres nothing wrong with my HTC One, I love it, its just the storage that's becoming a problem. Im on Prepay and don't really want to be using Dropbox to view my movies etc.

I have Preordered a PS4, wether I get it or not is still up in the air but if I did, the Xperia Z1 would pair nicely with it

Has anybody else moved from HTC One - Xperia Z1 or vice versa? Thoughts?

Thanks.

Hmm quite tricky as the One is such a good phone.

If you are thinking of the Z1 you will be coming to a inferior screen, but apart from that, it's a good upgrade, you get a faster soc, a phone with expandable memory, imo a better camera and I think the Sony skin is tastefully done.

Don't know if the latest updates matters to you, Sony recently announced Android 4.3 is going to be rolling out in December and Android 4.4 in '2014'.

I personally love my Z1, it has its flaws but overall it's a very, very good phone. I was interested in the Nexus 5,but after seeing very average battery life results, I will keep this, because the battery life on the z1 is incredibly good. It lasts over a day for me, and i use it quiet a bit

Yeah I love the One its great.

I have watched a couple of reviews/read a few posts on XDA and they say the viewing angles aren't great. Yeah I have always quite liked the Sony skin, its looks nice and polished, as does the hardware. Most reviews/comparisons I have watched all point to a HTC One victory.

Apparently Sony isn't great at updates though, they generally start pushing them later than the date they give, I think?

I love HTC Ones speakers and that's another big feature that isn't on the Z1. Probably my biggest reason for not swapping to be honest.

Never owned the one, but the Z1 has Waaay better sound than the s4. Another thing to remember with viewing angle.... how often do you look at your phone sideways? Are you watching movies with 3 people? If not, you're looking straight on anyway so viewing angles are a load of toss.
Sony have got a lot better with updates recently, as they have finally realised nobody will buy one of they don't.
Sony also make the best Sony apps for other Sony systems, so maybe the ps4 connectivity will be as good as everything else they have.. ie, the music player on the Z1 is probably the best I've seen from any handset maker.

I completely agree with you about viewing angles, ie, it doesn't bother me at all.

But I think that it has to be mentioned because there are instances when you really notice it, like when it's on the desk and your just unlock and taking a glance at the screen, it really is washed out.

But yeah, I love my Z1 and wouldn't sell it for any other phone.

Good point! I actually got a dock with mine so I don't have that issue ;-p
I have the Mrs my S4 after playing with a Z1 for about 5 seconds. Love it. Best skinned handset I've owned, and I've been thru quite a few.

The lack of ext SD has always stopped me moving away from Samsung especially the HTC one, I can't understand why companies restrict people on memory. It may be fine in countries where mobile broadband is cheap but here it isn't.

You get the die hards saying they have enough storage or just shift stuff to PC or cloud but I like having all my music/pics vids etc with my phone.

I like the idea of a waterproof prone but when I tried the Z1 I didn't like the way it sat in my hand for some reason but its a good phone as most of the top offerings are just personal preference.

Like I said earlier, I've played with one, and used to be a fan of HTC, but I don't like sense or touchwiz. I prefer a skin that slightly improves AOSP without all the bloat, and that's the Sony at this stage.

Did any of you get a metal watch strap with your SmartWatch2? (those that got the SmartWatch2 anyway)

I was given my partners smart watch as he had no use for it, works fine with my Z, but I found the metal watch was getting caught on clothes and even arm hairs and would pull them out if i moved it suddenly. Was quite painful after a while so I stopped using it. Considering buying one online.

I haven't seen much online about this though, the picture of a watch posted above came with a plastic one by the looks of it? Is that any good?

Lol funny story, I got my free smart watch 2, it only worked for a day before it stopped working. The screen just went blank.
