langers1972: New Zealand has a total population that's smaller than most capital cities in the developed world so why on earth do so many Kiwis struggle to grasp that on a world stage it's largely irrelevant?

There is absolutely no driver to enter a market where 100% saturation leads to total sales of just over 4m it's schoolboy economics, especially in the tech sphere.

Same reason Apple has largely stayed out of NZ (Still no official Apple stores, right?).

For quite a while Vodafone was the only NZ carrier to get the iPhone, and that was only because they were able to leverage their global brand. It wasn't until the popularity of iPhone really took off they bothered with Telecom (who didn't have a global brand to piggy back off).

And IKEA, Gap, etc etc.

Funnily enough the fast food giants all seem to find ample profits here :-)

Because people would rather eat junkies than buy things that doesn't disappear in 10 minutes. :D

Hey guys, quick question: When the nexus 5 was released last year for the very first time in early November ....at what time (EDT) was it ?
because didn't it run out of stock within MINUTES last time and never came back till about 2 months later ?

Ugh...I just realized that I have an ANZ Visa DEBIT Card.

Not a Visa Credit card.

Therefore I'm not able to change the billing address through online banking.

So even if I enter the youshop address as the billing address on the Play Store cart ...they'll check against the visa address and it won't match.

sad..sad..so sad.

old3eyes: Temped but will depend upon.
1. Being able to access the Play Store
2. Google having enough stock for the first week.
3. Google excepting my ASB Visa CC..

1 and 3 worked just dandy for my nexus 7 with unblock-us

Did your ASB Visa card have a NZ billing address associated with it??

My understanding is that billing address validation only works for US addresses. For US merchants processing overseas cards, I believe they just get an address verified flag returned as true regardless of your real billing address. Someone correct me if my understanding is wrong.

Lots of chatter that Google is building up stock levels prior to the launch to avoid what happened last year. In any case, I will order one from the AU play store. If that's on day one, cool, if not I will wait. If they sell out, so be it - but I am hoping Google learned a lesson last time.

Slightly OT but reading this thread and I decided to see if I could get to the Play Store with Tunnel Bear.

With the app I can't see any hardware and with the brower app I can see the Nexus 7 but as soon as I try to add it to my cart I get not available in your country.

So perhaps Google has closed that loop down?

System One: Popcorn Hour A200,  PS3 SuperSlim, NPVR and Plex Server running on Gigabyte Brix (Windows 10 Pro), Sony BDP-S390 BD player, Pioneer AVR, Raspberry Pi running Kodi and Plex, Panasonic 60" 3D plasma, Google Chromecast

System Two: Popcorn Hour A200 ,  Oppo BDP-80 BluRay Player with hardware mode to be region free, Vivitek HD1080P 1080P DLP projector with 100" screen. Harman Kardon HK AVR 254 7.1 receiver, Samsung 4K player, Google Chromecast

I get the 'Devices' section intermittently.
But if i can see it, then i'm also able to proceed to 'add to cart' any devices and also click on payment.
Haven't tried entering my Visa though.

That's what im worried about.

So eventhough my billing address that's tied to my card is nz based ...and the billing address that I enter in the cart is youshop it'll be fine ?

I've just gone and add my visa to my Google Wallet and set the billing address to the youshop one (without the youshop number for the full name).

I plan on paying using the wallet instead. Fingers crossed.

Are you using Tunnelbear or another VPN?

One question regarding the use of Tunnelbear. I have installed it on the try 500Meg free plan and have verified that i have a US IP address. When I access the play store I see all the goodies but as soon as I login I go back to see the stuff we can only see. My wallet billing address is my YouShop address.,

What am I missing ??
