And when you factor in a 2 year warranty that 2 degree give you Vs no warranty from playstore Its a no Brainer for me.

FYI: 2 Degrees warranty is worth nothing, buying from a New Zealand retailer, where they're bound to the laws of the Consumer Guarantees Act is worth something. So really they're just adding extra value for something they're already obliged to do.

Life expectancy of a cellphone is 2 to 3 years.

Got my 32gig nexus 5 from the oz store and love it. One problem: I'm in the oz play store and can't figure out how to change to the nz store!

I want to download the Vodafone nz ap and it says it's not available in my country.

I updated my settings in Google wallet so it shows I live in nz, but no luck yet

Anyone else have that problem?

Try searching for the app in a web browser from a computer. If you are signed into your google account you should be able to install direct from the web browser. This is how I install Netflix which is US only.

It doesn't help your original problem though!

Try signing up to all access music.

My phone was using the US play store, but when I signed up for all access music it changed back to the NZ region

It won't let me try that for some reason.

Just removed all Google accounts and it appears that so far I'm in luck!

Cheers guys - can't believe Google make this one thing so hard when everything else works so well (so far at least)

If anyone else has this problem, please let me know - may be able to make the app available to Australia as well if enough people need it. :)

What's LG's stance on root permissions guys?

Better yet, what's the stance from a consumer guarantees act direction?

I think I could convince a small claims panel that rooting my phone had no effect on hardware failure (I wouldn't try if I didn't think it were the case)

toii: I bought one of these wireless chargers.  Nothing fancy but it works fine.  About NZ$19 including shipping to NZ.  The LED was quite bright flashing at night so I unclipped the cover and taped the LED to reduce the brightness.

Thanks for the link :)

Mine arrived today, around 2 1/2 weeks delivery time (over xmas) and as you said nothing fancy, but works fine.

Do you guys know what DSLV_state.txt file do on root directory? I googled but still not clear apart from the fact that it may be related to Widgetsoid.

Also noticed a file called 'kingdid' with no extension. This may be related to KS mobile's cleaner app. It seems to get rid of unnecessary cache quite effectively. Have used it on Galaxy S3, Xperia Z Tablet, and also using it on Nexus 5. I opened it up using txt editor and it seems to be some sort of serial number (or identification number).

UPDATE ON USA PURCHASE OF N5:

The US based Google help desk has advised my freind in California that any carrier and SIM card that works with the D821 model will work with the D820 model since they cover the same GSM bands. Unfortunately, except from possibly some third-party retailers, you can't buy the D821 model in the United States.

With this in mind, would you recommend that I proceed with purchasing a N5 from the USA directly, or will I just be throwing my money away for no real advantage?

The 32G model is US $399

If you want LTE then the US one, the 820 will be no good for you.  If you want only 3G you should be OK

I think this has been discussed before.
Unless your friend is brining the phone in person, you are likely to save approximately 150 dollars because you have to take shipping+custom cost into account.
So if you value warranty + lte version you better off buying it here

I don't think Google Wallet is available in NZ yet. I've tried to install it and it says it's not available in my country (NZ). That may be why you're "stuck".

Google Wallet is available in NZ but only in the sense if you purchase something from the Play Store it's charged to your Google Wallet which is attached to your credit card. It is possible to buy things from the Play Store using a NZ credit card which is your wallet. Not being able to buy the N5 is probably related to the fact that the phone is not available to be shipped outside the US (officiallh) and therefore only US credit cards are accepted.

But the Google Wallet app which is an NFC based app for certain Android phones is not available in NZ. You can get the app to run through sideloading etc but from my experience all transactions willl fail because Google Wallet on the phone will not work for international transactions. And this is even if you are funding the transaction with a US credit card.

As an aside the other day I tried to use tap and go using my Nexus 5 at a Office Depot in the US. That also failed with an error saying the card was not supported even though it was a US credit card. Perhaps because the real card is not Mastercard Paypass enabled with no chip.

I reckon this thread would only be about 5% of current size if Google had made the hardware available through the NZ Play store ... ;-)
