I don't pay too much attention to the quoted standby times to be honest. I have a S3 and a Nexus 4 and don't notice any difference based on my regular usage (work phone and personal phone). The Nexus 4 is quoted as having 390 hours I believe?

Is your S3 LTE?

Also bigger screen than the S3.

I would say the battery life would be around the same as the nexus 4.

No LTE. It's a bigger screen yes, but 300 vs 780 is a big difference (getting close to 1/3)

Normally you find that with battery power and GSM tech etc

2g < 3g < 4g

I would say if you limited the speed to 2g or 3g the battery life would be a lot more.
However this depends on the chips now as well. First Gen LTE was a real drain

I found the nexus 4 lasted longer than my s3 so yes i don't really worry about the stand by times etc, as long as it last a day i am happy.

Just asked my friend in Australia to order me one.
It says "pre-ordered" under the status - does this mean 32gb model's already been sold out in Aus?
I know some poeple with actual shipping date showing under status.

Also by the way, if my friend ships the device to NZ, does this mean I have to pay a custom fee? Maybe it depends on your luck, if you get caught then you pay if not then no charge..
Still all together it's quite cheap.

Nexus 5 has envelope tracking like the Note 3, so should be significantly less power draw on 4G LTE than previous generations of device. Skeptical whether that + Snapdragon 800 + KitKat improvements will counter the still-weedy-by-comparison 2300mAh battery, but a definite plus all the same.

Yes, the black versions sold out of their first allocation about 2 hours ago. 32GB black currently showing as "Dispatched from warehouse in 2 - 3 weeks"

Ordered one at 8 this morning from US play store, tbh the 4G doesn't bother me, but still not sure whether I really need to upgrade at the moment.

I've got a week to decide whether to cancel my order, but either way I can stick it up on trademe.

droopanu: Anybody knows a good mail forwarder from AU to NZ?
I believe the best option for us is to buy it from AUS.

PS. If you want to use LTE, don't buy from US. Wrong frequencies ....

Yes i am thinking it would be better or from the UK but the price over in the UK is just way to high.

Just hope 2degrees brings them out

And you think that the UK prices are high.

Mobicity are now listing the 16GB version (I'm after the 32Gb though). Price doesn't seem too harsh.

Guys, quick question.

I"ve spotted the case that I like on Amazon and am just about to buy it.

But i'm not sure whether to send it on a separate shipping or combine it with the nx5.

And I'm not sure when the nx5 or the case will arrive ..for combined shipping to work.

Help me out here ?

The case is only USD 6  (tho from amazon...who ships AIR)

Yes I know, nz will be higher in price.

So 16gig from Uk is 560NZ, plus GST, postage, Customs brings it to 700 or so, if it opens around the same price as the nexus 4 then it will be around $800 here.

Would rather just wait for it to hit NZ (if it does) and then wait for the xmas/boxing day sales and get one for 20% off :P
till then i have a nexus 4 and a new lumia 1020 to play with.

Still not bad for the kind of phone, and when the sales hit for xmas you can drop that by 10 - 20 % depending on how demanding you are at a shop
