Hi,

I've just bought one of these today from JB Hifi - dual sim model.  I'm just wondering what the ETA is for kitkat, or whether there are options for sideloading.  I see that you can download the US kitkat update for sideloading, but am not sure whether that will work on this version, which is designated "AsiaRetail".

Any help appreciated.

Cheers
Matt

I picked up one from JB Hifi on the weekend for my wife (my one was from Amazon UK). She is only using one sim slot so has the second sim logo and reception bars in the top with red exclamation points or "X" or something on them. Does anyone know if there is a tool/app to hide that? The 2nd sim is already turned off in the settings.

old3eyes: My JBhiFi ordered one arrived today with it's free wallet. Interesting that it also comes with a USB plug pack as well..

Easy to setup just like the N4 but my attempts to get a Telecom as primary SIM and Skinny as the secondary SIM have not worked. One works or the other but not both. Will get my personal Telecom mini SIM converted to a micro SIM at lunch time and see if that works or as I suspect the second SIM will only work on standby in GSM (2G) mode which means it has to be a 2D or Vodafone one..

Will let you know..

Would be quite interested in the results of this.

From a youtube clip I saw it looks like you set one sim as the data sim - thats fair enough.

You would hope the dual sims can sit there and both be online for incoming calls at the same time.
Presumably you could have it ask which one you want to make a call on when you go to dial someone as well.

The UK model has KitKat, so I doubt it's far behind for the NZ model. The differences are minor, difficult to spot and nothing much in practice.

Got a Telecom SIM at lunch time.  Same.  Will only work on One Telecom SIM at a time. Second SIM shows "No Service"  Will get my 2D SIM converted to a micro tomorrow and try again...

Maybe each sim can only use one band at a time?

That's a bit boneheaded! Interested in an answer too, as I just bought one of these for my Dad and he's really not the dual-simming type.

PS. The JB Hifi model comes with an AC adaptor, which is good. Unfortunately it's only 1A - the phone is capable of drawing up to 1.5A. Still, at least you don't have to buy one if you've picked one up for a family member without dozens of chargers lying about.

Yeah, it's a bit odd. Google wasn't much help - presumably because it is relatively new phone. Kind of took the shine off me surprising her with a new phone - now I just get her nagging me asking when I can fix it. There are a few sim-manager type apps that hopefully might do the trick, but that will be hit and miss as well as taking up time installing and checking them out. Hopefully someone has a solution.

For those who don't care about being on the latest version of Android, 4.3 works really well on the Moto G and the stock 4.4 didn't bring many noticable upgrades.

I think what he's saying is 4.3 is just fine on the dual sim model so it's not a huge imposition to have to wait for 4.4.

This was my reading also.

4.4 is primarily under the hood changes. They're important improvements, but not especially user-facing for the most part.

Anyone know if JB Hi-Fi or Harvey Norman are selling flip cases for Moto G separately? If so, how much are they?

The plebs at JB said nope, as they're not selling the phones without.

I'd say wait till 2degrees start doing them.

I'm another note....my postage from Amazon came to $15NZ....by using a prime trial and a promo code with youshop...pretty good deal..
