n95:
n95: So despite being in stock (online) ordered and paid on Queens Birthday weekend, come Tuesday I get a call from the warehouse  saying they have sold out of Vodafone S5's.

They have offered me a 2 degrees one instead. Can anyone tell me if it will work the same on Vodafone? What about updates, are these pushed out by the carrier? Will it work out of the box on the Vodafone 4G network?

n95: $839 at the Warehouse http://search.thewarehouse.co.nz/search?w=s5&asug=

Below is the response from Vodafone technical support:

"As long as the phone in not locked to the 2 degrees network, it will work on our network. ( You will need to confirm this with 2 degrees ).

For the phone to work with 4G, we will have to manually configure the handset to the network. It is not guaranteed that it will work.

The best thing to do will be, to contact one of our Vodafone store and get the handset tested with a Vodafone sim. Through this we will get a confirmation.

In regards to the firmware updates, that's not support my the network as it comes from the manufacture. So you should still receive the updates."

You could download the VF firmware and flash via Odin, it won't trip any Knox flags as it's the official firmware for the same model. You then get a fully functioning VF device with updates and already configured for 4G etc.

Thanks, I did wonder about doing that. I'll look into it

I thought you didn't like the S5 and had switched to the HTC? Having had both for 2 weeks the Samsung is better for a variety of reasons so far, the number one being the button for getting home. I can't stand phones which use valuable screen real estate for buttons, such a waste of expensive real estate.

Some things the HTC does better, but I would be surprised if it ended up being my daily driver.

After years with Nokia, and a few months with iPhone, after 2 months I am an unashamed convert to S5/Android. I bought from 2Degrees, have mucked around a bit customising and removing some crap, but this handset/platform has blown me away with features, usability, intelligence. 4G will be good, but much like VDSL over ADSL not a gamechanger.

Hey just wondering if it is possible to customise the dock in Touchwiz? Apparently, the Australians have a locked dock. It would be a shame not to be able to at least swap out the default browser for Chrome.

Bah, the waterproofing cover for my micro USB/3 slot doesn't clip closed anymore..

Anyone else with this issue? Anyone had to resolve this yet? It's only been a few months and I've only submerged it once in a jug of beer.
