weiminn: just picked mine up from NL Te Awa.. happy days.. now just need to go vodafone and get my sim changed to nano

If you're brave you can just cut the sim down with scissors. There's plenty of tutorials online... saves you a few dollars.

People never cease to surprise me in a bad way. You are ok spending $1000 on a beautifully crafted flagship smartphone, but not ok to spend $5-10 on a simcard for it, rather risking the proper functioning of the entire phone due to potentially cutting it wrong.

Welcome to geekzone seaphorm... you've only posted twice and already annoyed one of the locals.

1. What was the point of your post other than to publicly face palm in my direction? For the record I am officially aware of your indignation. I shall take it into account the next time I go to recommend something to someone that will save them a few dollars. "will networkn think I'm being petty?" I will think to myself.

2. I've done said technique twice now... The price is irrelevant. I'll also question an overcharged item at the supermarket or a taxi driver taking me on a weird route. As a matter of principle I don't like paying for things that I shouldn't have to pay for - and the only difference between the different sim cards is the thickness of plastic around the side. I cut my sim down after Noel Leeming did it for my partner in store to save her buying a new sim. They even had a card template that showed them where to cut it...

So you might also want to go to your nearest Noel Leeming and facepalm them through the store window as well to get that indignation properly off your chest.

with what you have just written you might just annoy a few more people...

I think what is clear is if you are a Vodafone customer (or a Telecom customer) and you go into your network providers shop to change from a micro sim to nano sim, there will be no cost to the customer, so I would think there is no need to start cutting sim cards

I have absolutely no doubt that being sarcastic at a regular forum user will probably lead me to incur the wrath of both that person and hordes of their online friends and acquaintances. I may be new to this particular forum, but I'm not new to forums.

But leading a reply with "People never cease to surprise me in a bad way" and insinuating pettiness is never going to improve a post, regular forum user or not. Particularly if you are responding to someone who is simply trying to be helpful based on personal experience.

Either way, the price of a nano sim from Telecom currently is $5 people can either cut their old sim and save $5... or cut it and make a mistake and pay $5, or just pay $5. It's up to them.

Have an HTC One M8 in the post for my wife. Hope she finds the transition from an iPhone alright.

Vodafone have been great in the past with free microsims. As for annoying people and cutting SIM cards up, have you seen this example?

That johnr guy on the Vodafone forums needs his access revoked. No customer service skills at all and he always comes off as an ass.

Yet you did it anyway. Clever.  But in your attempt to be witty/clever you unsurprisingly missed the point. Never mind, logic and common sense aren't likely to sway you in your effort to save $5 whilst potentially damaging your $1000 phone.

Somewhat unlikely thankfully. He helps dozens and dozens of people every week. Why is it not ok for him to be abrupt but it's ok for customers to rant, rave, abuse, make wild claims and otherwise be unpleasant whilst asking or is often the case, demanding, help?

@Over @izzyongeek Really tell me more! I am all ears and listening maybe you would like to come and spend a week in my shoes?

Over 14+ years in Vodafone over 10 years here on Geekzone and approx 6 years on the VodafoneNZ community supporting Vodafone / Telecom / 2Degrees customers ETC...... 1000s and 1000s of hours of my own time, Even logging back into work to fix issues for customers when I am not even on call or even in another country on holiday,

Please tell me about the value you are going to bring to Geekzone?

Calm down all of you folks...

@Over @izzyongeek JohnR is JohnR. He talks like that in real life, to anyone - even me...

Now, seriously, as mentioned above he goes way beyond his duty - he helps people out of business hours, hell he even look at things while on holiday in another country (yes, he said that but I am repeating because I experienced that myself).

One of the rules here is to be nice to each other. You can have your opinion folks, and even sometimes write it here. But remember to never, ever breach the FUG. Saying you don't like someone is fine. Attacking someone is not.

just remember that.

Back to normal programming.
