I told myself I would never spend over $500 on a mobile phone.

But I'm currently using a lemon of a phone, and after receiving a tax refund, Im getting pretty tempted . . . .

Before anyone buys I would recommend reading a couple of the GSM vs reviews. They report the phone gets insanely hot after a couple minutes use and the performance of the phone suffers quite a bit.

I've just spend $500 on the LG G2 and very happy with it. If you don't need the latest and greatest, the G2 is worth considering.
Its Battery life is top notch and it does 4G (admitally you need to manaully enable 4G very time you reboot, but how often to you reboot a phone - once every few weeks?)

If you don't want to parallel import and can handle 16G Harvey Norman had then for $480 last weekend.

I'm using a G2 on telecom and it runs 4G without having to manually switch it.

And the GETTING HOT issue is not an issue, try googling it and see how many people are reporting this.

I was all but ready to buy the G2, but I am really keen to make use of my 32gb memory card.

They must be able to fix the G3 heating issue with a firmware update?

The LG Pro 2 looks pretty good. Although I saw the Xperia Z2 in store the other day and thought it looked like the biggest phone I would want.

Mind you, I said the same a couple of years ago when I bought my phone with a 3.7 inch screen! lol

It's taking all of my will to not go out and buy this phone right now.
Going to wait for the Nexus 6 and take it from there, I think...

Just got a mailer from Harvey Norman,

G3 is coming to 2Degrees/Telecom 'Soon' for $1049 or $0 on a $99PM plan on both networks

Thought this would be so good after the G2, but it looks like it has very poor battery life compared to the other current flagships. Despite the power savings, pushing all that resolution to that screen is still taking a toll on battery life compared to phones with the same chipset outputting 1920*1080. I still don't see the point of such a high res on a small screen.

Yes, reading the Anandtech review my fears were realised - very little tangible advantage to the screen res (for mirroring it might be useful, and in my use-case scenarios that is not irrelevant, but still a bit fringe), but lots of compromises. Battery life hurts a bit, blacks/contrast/viewing angles hurt, screen and performance throttling on show too. Emulation is important to my use, and the resolution hurts there (not convinced about this resolution on anything less than K1 and 805 (or perhaps even 810). For selected people this could still be stellar phone, but not for me.

And as always the carriers that have them have opted for a lower spec'd/internal storage of 16GB which means 2GB RAM.

Well they are releasing a G3 with an 805 processor, hopefully that means no overheating/throttling and a huge improvement on battery life.

Don't see the pointin QHD myself, it's a phone FFS

Is there any reason to get the $1050 G3 16gb 2gb ram NZversion over the $850 32gb 3gb ram imported one from pbtech?

(Apart from having to deal with pb tech for warranty)

Mostly the warranty I would say. Local is 24 months warranty VS 12 months with PBtech.

It's a shame they don't bring in the 32gb models for LG in NZ (same with the LG G2).
