Apparently Samsung NZ has decided that the Online Product Registration facility is no longer a requirement and is therefore no longer available.
However it seems that the facility is still available to customers in Australia and elsewhere.

WTF is going on with these people. Is customer care a myth?

What's the actual problem?  Are Samsung stating that its not available for NZ or it somehow fails when registering?

I logged in and was able to select "Register New Product".

tigercorp: What's the actual problem?  Are Samsung stating that its not available for NZ or it somehow fails when registering?


I had issues signing in and called the help desk to check if there was a problem.
The chap I spoke to informed me that the facility is to be withdrawn and that customers should now make sure they retain receipts etc.

This is not the first time that I have had issues with Samsung NZ. Contrary to the attitude of most multi-nationals customer care at Samsung NZ seem to think that there is no world outside NZ and will not entertain any queries about devices purchased elsewhere.

BTW: I have now resolved my sign in issues. Seems to have been a server problem.

You usually can get your product fixed even if you havent registered for the warrenty anyway?

Perhaps instead of a thread subject of "Samsung NZ : A law unto themselves? Is customer care a myth?" a better one would be "Is anyone else having problems registering your Samsung devices?"

The title was prompted by past dealings with customer care personnel at Samsung NZ whose parochial attitude is legendary.

Correct. Online registration of products is not a requirement for warranty claims. So not really an issue if they are indeed withdrawing this facility.

Samsung are not the only company that doesn't support products purchased outside of NZ. Sony NZ will only deal with products brought in NZ and OZ and Panasonic also don't support any parallel imported products.

and what difference does that make to you as a user?

ive never done it so i dont know

I've never registered any of my Samsung products which would be 5 smartphones and 2 TV's. I have never had any issues which require me to challenge warranty but have used CGA an one occasion with Noel Lemming's to rectify a problem with an Apple ipod that was out of manufacturers warranty but had it replaced.

Same here, Just keep reciepts, Or when you buy phones from telecom shop etc, they scan the IMEI so they can look it up by the IMEI later on to retrieve the reciept, They can also look it up by your name and phone number. If you have lost your reciept, If you paid with eftpos find a bank statement that shows when you purchased it, When they know the date and time you purchased it they can look it up
