So, this is about app updates, settings in the play store app are set to only download over Wi-Fi but it doesn't work. They update anytimeand mostly at times when I want to use it, thus slowing it downdown.

I've googled variations of this topic but nothing much is it there that helps.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm not concerned about the data use, I'm on a high data plan. It's more the fact of the updates slowing up my phone so much

Just change it to "Do not auto-update apps" and keep "Notifications" ticked and they it will notify you when update/s are available, then you can just update them when you want.

This. And you may also want to go through each individual app after deselecting the update globally and ensure each autoupdate check box is deselected. I don't know why it didn't work just with the global setting last time I tried it. Frankly having the play store default to auto update and place an icon on the desktop is a pita.

i have found the autoupdating to be inconsistent..

will have phone happily sitting on wifi all day long, no updates come down, then go out for a little while and it will randomly update an app or two.

opening the playstore is a sure way to make it happen too - yeah its set to only update over wifi.

for me too, its the performance hit from things installing..
