Available in the UK next week . . .

I'll wait for the SGP641 though.

We have 3 different Sony Xperia Z3 family threads which despite their respective original specific topics, all ended up as general discussions for a particular model so I have done some tidying up.

Just received:

Sony Mobile Communications New Zealand is proud to announce the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact will be available in New Zealand on the 17th of November. The Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact is a tablet that re-defines lightness, re-invents entertainment and re-imagines power. The culmination of years of Sony engineering have resulted in a tablet where might isn’t held back by measurements.

The world’s slimmest and lightest waterproof compact tablet3, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact delivers the highest level of waterproof design with attention to detail that makes the difference. Running with the most powerful processor in a compact tablet4, it has the brightest and sharpest 8” Full HD display, as well as the latest audio technology. It also features PS4 Remote Play2, making serious mobile gaming a reality.

“Following on from the success of our award-winning Xperia Z2 Tablet, we’re continuing to expand our tablet portfolio with the launch of the no-compromise compact tablet. Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact pushes the boundaries of technology innovation by bringing our flagship Z3 series features in a compact sized tablet, continuing our new standard of offering premium experiences in a choice of form factor for consumers,” says Peter McKeon, Managing Director Oceania, Sony Mobile Communications.

Impossibly slim, astonishingly light and exquisitely crafted – Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact is a design sensation. At just 6.4mm slim, its compact design is perfect for those on the go, while advanced Sony technology ensures you don’t have to compromise on power. Weighing just 270g, the ultra-portable tablet feels weightless in your hand.

Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact brings you all the best in Sony entertainment, backed up by the latest advancements in performance and speed. Featuring the world’s fastest processor in a compact tablet4, thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 Quad-core 2.5 GHz processor6 with 3GB RAM, ensuring entertainment comes at a breakneck pace. Every interaction is fluid, browsing is lightning-quick and multi-tasking is effortless. The asynchronous processor makes sure each core is powered independently which means you get the precise amount of power when you need it, without wasting power when you don’t.

The 16GB WiFi variant of the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact will be available in black, from Sony stores and through Sony online, at RRP $579 from the 17th of November.

Picked up my pre-order yesterday, and played with it for a couple of hours now.

My first impression is:

1. Build quality is good, not great but still feels solid and premium enough.
2. The device is very thin and light
3. Screen is good, but again not great. With the price tag it comes with, I would have expected something a bit better. It is incredibly bright though.
4. Sound quality is still awesome considering water-proof device.
5. Camera is average at best as expected.
6. Very snappy device overall. No lag or stuttering when multi-tasking and stuff.

Haven't tested the gaming performance yet. I'll post an update later on.

For the pre-order, I received a free portable battery charger + 32gb sd card.

Overall, a very good portable tablet and I am happy with it. I do feel the price is a bit on the higher side though, especially considering the price of Ipad mini 2.
