Good little comparison piece of 3 phones, worth a read.

cheers for the link, good read. Z3 compact looses a lot of the comparisons but it hasn't swayed my desire to pick one up. It kills it in areas that are worth it for me, namely insane battery life and waterproof. The speakers may not be the best but they are front facing and stereo, which in my books is better than a slightly better quality single rear/side facing speaker. Also having a dedicated camera button would be fantastic, so many times I've handed my phone to someone to take a pic and they press the wrong onscreen button or go back to the home screen. I hope this phone will be as good as I think it will be, haven't been this excited about a device for a while, and it's the 1st time I've wanted a white phone (I had the white One X but it doesn't count as there was no colour choice at the time I got it). So the Spark exclusive shouldn't be carrier locked I hope, does anyone know for sure?

We have 3 different Sony Xperia Z3 family threads which despite their respective original specific topics, all ended up as general discussions for a particular model so I have done some tidying up.

Sony Xperia Z3 Compact Discussion & Owners Thread

I love the look of the copper phone. Looks beautiful

Aren't ALL NZ Phones unlocked? By law don't they have to be?

Don't know about a law because there are handsets from both Skinny and Vodafone that are locked to their networks. They are low end models sold at a discount, so fair enough that the provider recoups via being locked to a network (or unlocked for a fee). It is the thin end of the wedge in my opinion and needs to be discouraged.

Any indication of pricing? I got a promo email from pbtech for both the Z3 and Z3 Compact but doesn't seem to include any prices.

It really is. I have it and it's the best looking phone I have ever seen. The copper and black go so well together, especially with the almost-copper orange theme applied!

RRP $749 on Sony's bookface page... it represents great value for me, upgrading from an N5 (which will be replacing the other half's SIII).

I'll be heading to the Sony store on the 28th and enjoying my new VF 4G (sorry Spark).

No, its one of those hit and miss things - sometimes you will get hit with GST

More often than not, you'll get hit with it.

Think I would rather pay $50 extra to buy local, and the extra 1 year warranty :) Plus Sony might have a local promotion for something extra thrown in (maybe in the Z3 not the Z3 compact).

Yeah I waited up for that when the Z2 came out. They ended up making the special offer only available to people signing up for a new plan so I had waited over a month for nothing (and paid more in the end).

This time I didn't mess around. Reckon I was the first in NZ with a Z3 and I have no regrets.

EDIT: Also I'm not sure where you got that extra years warranty from. Do you mean you'd pay for an extended warranty?

Haha, yea fair enough. I've been tempted to buy it sooner.

I got the warranty info from sony.co.nz "All Sony Xperia™ smartphones come with a 2-year warranty." and parallel importers having 1 year warranty.
