scottjpalmer: I have the Ringke Fusion case, love it.

I am planning to order this case from Amazon, along with Magnetic Charging cable adapter or cable itself.
Anywhere else I should check before processing that order from Amazon / via Youshop?

I generally look at sites like eBay and mobilefun:
http://www.mobilefun.co.nz/50380-rearth-ringke-fusion-sony-xperia-z3-compact-bumper-case-clear.htm)
http://www.mobilefun.co.nz/search/?s=z3+compact+magnetic

The problem with eBay is getting people to ship to NZ at a reasonable price. mobilefun is fairly expensive too (though I think their shipping rate is slightly more reasonable). I guess the question is if youshop will charge more.

I've actually been looking for a case/charger too, so perhaps we could share the shipping cost or something?

Mobilefun is expensive to Amazon plus the shipping cost on top of it.
You shop is $18 approx for shipping 500Gms parcel. So relatively cheaper if combined. Yes, I am happy to share costs if you want one of each too? Are you in Auckland ? Anyone else want to join - please PM me.

Wellington-ish. Will obviously pay additional NZ shipping fee if you'd be happy to send it on.

Just got notified of a new System Update for the Z3 compact.  Still Android 4.4.4, but the kernal build date is changed.  Cant see anything noteably different.

Yeah I did it last night. Nothing noticeably different yet.

Had to plug into computer to do it, annoying!

I bought from Sony Style and it has spark branding when loading and apps from spark. The box even says made for Spark.

Yea I got mine from Sony retail store and when phone starts up does have Spark logo. Guy in shop said they were all like this due to phone being a Spark exclusive in NZ.

But there is no Spark bloatware on phone. Only the logo when phone starts up. Im on Vodafone and all works fine.

I am just wondering if anyone else has noticed a drop in battery performance since the latest andriod update?

If there aren't any good deals on note 4 in the near future this will become a must buy. Looks great. And I've had a 720p screen on my 5.5 inch note 2 for a year or a while and find it perfectly fine.

If you are thinking Z3 Compact is Water proof, think again.

I only bought this phone on 3rd December from Sony Style in Sylvia Park. Started using it as of 9th December.

On Xmas day, ensuring my hands are dry and all knobs are closed securely, I took the phone and used it in the SPA for 2 to 3 minutes. The phone worked for a minute and started to freeze on the camera. Specifically when trying to take video.

I took it out and left it to dry. In about 3 hours from then the camera started to show Moist and the flash light hole as well.
The phone worked but the camera app crashed. I rebooted and waited for it to be dry overnight.

Next day morning, the screen stopped responding. Touch does not work. If you keep the phone upside down for long period the touch starts working for few minutes.

Reading about it online - there are several reports of the same exact symptoms. So if you are considering taking it to the water inspired by their advertisements - please ensure you have a back up phone which takes a Nano sim and can be use for upto 3 weeks (as per Sony Style).

there are several others reporting worldwide here, here, and here
Some YouTube videos too.

Now - the service of Sony Style

I went to Sony Style today to get it repaired / replaced. I was told it takes 3 weeks to get it sent and repaired. They do not offer any loan phone while this process happens.

However they suggested, I should take it to the service center myself in New Market and they will be able to provide me a loan phone and get it pressure tested within 1 week. He was not sure if it is covered under warranty. Only the pressure test can confirm that aspect.

Service center opens on 5th of January. - So I am out of phone for the next week.

Went straight to Noel Leeming and bought Samsung Note 4 - for $910.
Never buying Sony Phone again.

I am hoping they replace or repair this Sony compact under warranty so I can sell it. I have taken utmost care in the water, nothing like what they showed in the advertisements. I hate the fact that their own shop does not provide a loan phone and customer service. Why would it take 3 weeks to send the phone from Sylvia to Newmarket? I did not bother to argue, but I am On-call and I need to have a working phone, so had to just go and get a new one.

If I do not get warranty for this issue based on their own reasons, do you guys think I should go to Disputes Tribunal?

For those that want to test their phone if they have a real water proof device, here are the instructions.

Here is a test which uses just the phone and it's service mode (or any barometer app).
1. dial *#*#7378423#*#*
2. go to "Service Tests"
3. go to "pressure sensor"
4. slightly compress the phone using your thumb and index finger by pressing on the display and back

SLIGHT PRESSURE. No Berserker mode please! This is not a crush-your-phone contest!

More here

There is a YouTube Video showing manufacturing defect as well here

Had a very similar issue with Sony Style in Christchurch. Got a faulty flap on mine after 5 weeks. They would not give me a lone phone or anything. And repair is several weeks.

So getting another brand of phone in February. Then they can repair mine and I'll sell it.

Never going to punchase from Sony again. Even there staff dont seem to care. Think it's tough when you buy a flag ship phone and its faulty after 5 weeks and they tell you all they can do is send it for repair. That's no good when I need it for work.

Never mention this when claiming warranty, if you say it is for personal use only you are covered by CGA and therefore have more rights, the moment you mention it is used for work or commercial use you are no longer entitled to CGA.

Anyway I just picked up the Z3 Compact from JBHifi on sale, I guess I won't be trying it out in a spa pool anytime soon :p

Good point about CGA. JB is selling for 471 if anyone is looking or I can sell mine soon after getting it fixed. :)
