Dingbatt: I thought the Apple fanboys were all P&W about the S6 being 'inspired' by the iPhone 6 until I went into a local retailer and saw them side by side. From a distance it's only the home button that differentiates them to my old eyes. That's not to say that the S6 is not in serious contention for my next phone but I want to be confident in how much of the Samsung bloat can be removed andto what level Touchwiz can be suppressed. Having been a long term HTC fan and with them loading more and more of their features onto the Play Store I'm wondering if I can have the best of both worlds. Almost Sense 7 toys on an S6 if that is possible.

was my initial thoughts until I saw them side by side but they are quite different. If you were to say they were similar then you would also have to say that the 6 and 6+ were copied from Samsung and other android phones with big screens especially the Note 4 but such is the competition its hard to have something too radical.

The edge certainly is different but I've never been one to buy a phone on looks its what is under the hood that matters to me and Samsung still are near top of heap for screen and camera for me. The dropping of the ext SD card and removeable battery have made me, for the first time, to seriously look around at what is on offer but after a few weeks they either have poor screens, camera's or no ext Sd or removable battery.

Interesting to listen to those with the I6/+ and how they love the bigger screen, one has tiny hands and bought the 6+ however last year was deriding the Note 4 and 5.0" screens, go figure.

The LG G4 certainly looks good so will be keen to have a play with that when it is released.

johnr: Got my S6 Edge 64GB this morning

I was in Auckland this week and had a coffee with JohnR... The Samsung S6 Edge is the first Galaxy series device I actually thought was a good looking device. Very nice.

Agreed, yesterday was grabbing a Semble SIM and had a look at one in the VF shop. I asked about the 128G version but after the chicklet told me just tp put an SD card in it, I didnt purse that conversation any further.

What shop was this and did you point out it does not have a micro SD slot?

Rather not drop anyone in it, turns out she was brand new.

Yes I showed off my tech prowess as politely as I could.

If you really need to know PM me but she was trying her best while the other 2 were flat out with mums with kids playing games on every phone in the place :)

So those of you that have one of these new beauties, do you have it in a case with a front cover? If so how do you operate the volume buttons without having to open the cover? My son's S5 mini has a cheap Chinese cover that has a soft hinge which he can press through. The reason I ask is the cover on my M7 is hinged on the opposite side to the volume buttons meaning I can adjust the volume without having to pull my phone out of my pocket. Some of the Samsung branded covers I looked at in jbhifi didn't seem to allow access and the one that allowed 'press through' of the hinge looked like one of those cheap plastic chequebook covers that banks used to give out. And it cost $70!

I have a Samsung s view cover on mine which does work well. Had to grab something as had nothing when  I first grabbed the phone. It has press through on the side for volume and this works well.
I paid a stupid price for it from Spark and have since ordered 2 other ones from ebay at a fraction of the price.

a young fellow from work bought the S6 Edge in the weekend, have to say that it is a really nice phone both to look at, in the hand feel and the speed of it. The screen looked better (to my old eyes) than my S5 which surprised me, this was outside as well.

Getting tempted but not getting even warm on the S6 .

Keep up the reviews guys I need that little extra push

While I was looking at the S6 and S6E in Noel Leeming I noticed they had Note 4s on sale for $999. Compared to $1099 for the 32GB S6 it seemed like an awesome deal. But I guess it is only 5 months until the Note 5 is announced.

Just had an OTA Update to mine to ver 5.0.2 , was around the 270 meg mark. This is with Spark and no idea what the update brings or fixes. (must find out.)

It's just a MR noting too exciting and your handset would of been on 5.02 already, It's out the VodafoneNZ sold S6 as well just over 250MB

Anyone know where I can buy a S6 Edge with at least 64GB memory in NZ?
Most seem to be the 32gB version..

I know the 2degrees stores local to me have been getting new stock of phones daily - but there are waiting lists for them. You might need to go on a waiting list, but the 64Gb Edge was an option from the store I was dealing with. I decided to just go 64Gb standard in the end after reading some of the reviews. Main issue was frequent accidental use of the soft buttons.

I am feeling mightily aggravated by the lack of S6 Edge 64GB's. Feels like I have been waiting an age despite pre-ordering from Digital Mobile.

Trying to decide if I just buy one outright from somewhere else or compromise on capacity and go 32GB.
