P1n3apqlExpr3ss: Moxpearl how are you finding it a month later? How is the battery life holding up with the xiaomi.eu builds? Any annoying bugs/glitches?

It has also been discovered that the cheapest version of the Redmi Note 2, the supposedly TDD SKU does in fact work on WCDMA and FDD networks, meaning you can grab it for around $250

http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Original-Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-2-TD-TDD-Mobile-Phone-MTK6795-Octa-Core-5-5-1920X1080P-2GB/311331_32455806291.html

Also the Xiaomi Mi4C has been announced recently which looks awesome but I find it hard to justify the extra $100~ USD

Is the extra fifty bucks or so for the 2.2GHz version worth it? Mainly I'm thinking 16gig vs 32gig internal storage should  be worthwhile.

If you need the extra storage then yeah it's pretty worthwhile. I don't really play games on my phone so I'd be okay with 16GB + a 64GB SD card that's been gathering dust for a year or so

I just received my redmi note 2 from goldway or whatever the store above was, and it does not turn on and pulses/vibrates every 2-3 seconds.  Bugger.  I suspect this is a lemon.

I knew this sounded familiar, have you removed the tape from the battery?

Bingo.  That was it.  I actually worked that out 5 minutes ago, when I wondered if inserting a sim card would do the trick.  It takes normal sized sim cards so going to have to work out a solution there.

Someone you know should have a leftover micro sim adapter from popping out the micro or nano sim out of a 'multi-sim'.  As it is a slide in sim tray rather than a fiddly sim draw, you could even try just inserting your micro sim and aligning it with the contacts.

Yeah, I figure I have some detritus in my bag of tech crap in the cupboard.  I'll sort it out when I'm not working.  Interestingly, it didn't come with the Chinese rom like the guy above mentioned his did, it came with xiaomi.eu 5.9.24 installed already which saves a lot of bother.  Since it's the China model I just need to make sure it works with NZ bands :-)

I installed MTK Engineering Mode on the Redmi Note 2 cheaper chinese version, and it lists as enabled the following bands:
GSM: EGSM900, DCS1800, PCS1900, GSM850
UMTS: WCDMA-IMT-2000, WCDMA-PCS-1900, WCDMA-CLR-850, WCDMA-GSM-900
LTE: 1,3,7,38,39,40,41

Were the 3G/LTE bands not already working out of the box with the 5.9.24 firmware?

Perhaps what I said was ambiguous.  The MTK Engineering Mode app just _shows/lists_ the bands as enabled.  I have not changed anything, and do not know any other way to view what bands are available without using that app.

Oh right of course, thanks for clarifying!

This seems like a good deal from the same store, TDD 16 GB version with fast dispatch and DHL shipping for $236~ NZD. Probably going to order one once I get home tonight

Since you read xda, you're probably aware.  But I see there's a problem with dust getting in the camera.  I don't know what the difference is between that model and mine, but I think mine came with free shipping to ~255 NZD.  Also, the longest delay was the week they spent "processing" the order, after which it arrived fairly promptly.

My one has arrived today. Got the FDD one and its sitting on H+ on vodafone at the moment. Will take it elsewhere and see if I get 4G sometime later.

Edit: oops, meant I got the TDD one.

I got 4g 2degrees in Ashburton.  I live rurally, so have it up on my wall in the "2degrees reception spot".  It receives the 3g signal as well as my HTC One X ever did.

It'd be nice to know how to work out what xiaomi.eu roms are stable.  There's a lot of complaints about high cpu usage and things like that.

I've downloaded 5.10.8 in preparation for when mine arrives. From what I've seen it's the most stable recent beta build. Either way I think these beta builds are better than the stable MIUI6 ROM. Although it should be getting a stable MIUI7 ROM soon

That's the MIUI7 developer ROM right? Does this have Google Play installed? If not, could Google Play be installed easily (without having to root..etc)

Thanks
