Hi, can anyone help me with this error?

E: failed to mount /cache (Invalid argument)

I have tried wiping the cache, factory reset and sideloading a fresh recovery from adb.

All actions result in this error.

Please help.

Thanks
Bryan

Does this help or have you followed those steps already?

Hi Thanks,

As far as I am able to yes.

The only options in recovery menu are:

reboot system now

apply update from adb now

wipe date/factory reset

wipe cache partition

reboot to bootloader

power down

view recovery logs

apply update from sdcard

anything I do results in the same error.

Thanks

Bryan

So, I guess my SU6 was dead. I sent it in to be repaired, it was still under warranty, and they replaced it with a new Smart Ultra 7.

What do you think of the SU7 in comparison? I have a friend who 'upgraded' and was disappointed. That said, last week I replaced mine with a Moto G5 plus and don't really see any performance difference (it does have a better camera and battery life).

I'm happy to have a working phone again!

I don't think it's an upgrade. I hope it gets updated to nougat.

Though the build quality is comparable it seems 'cheaper'. Performance wise there is no noticable difference in what I do and I am happy with it from that point.

The camera does seem washed out in comparison to the SU6.

And the battery doesn't seem to last as well.

These are only gut feelings and I have made no direct comparisons though.

Overall, my speculation would be that Vodafone went to another supplier to increase profit with a comparable product.

I wouldn't spend the money on one as an upgrade from the SU6, because in my opinion it's not.

As a warranty replacement, I'm not going to complain. Especially if it gets updated to nougat. ??

Buying it outright? I haven't looked at the market recently as I was quite happy with the SU6. But I suspect that it isn't the clear stand out value that the SU6 was.

Yep, the SU7 is not very good. Have a few at work and lots of complaints about the phone. To add to the above list the number 1 problem I've heard is the phone is slow to wake up when receiving a call.  Perhaps it's the mediatek SOC or poorly written code.

Although benchmark scores say otherwise, the SU6 is a much nicer phone/experience.

There is a Smart Platinum 7 but it does not appear to be available in New Zealand. I think it is meant to be the real upgrade from the SU6, since the SU7 is apparently more of a sideways step.

It was available here, but I'm guessing that VF priced it too high meaning it didn't sell so have stopped bringing them in (at the start of this year if I recall).  Have a couple of these also at work. Definitely an upgrade. Its essentially an Alcatel Idol 4s. From personal experience, the SU7 is a backwards step.
