I'm new to Android and am wanting to root my new Xperia Z2 which is currently running Lollipop.

I have seen a few guides around that seem to point to downgrading to KitKat first and then flashing a pre-rooted Lollipop however all of the pre-rooted firmwares are from different regions like UK.

Does this matter? Do I need a pre-rooted firmware for NZ? Am I going about this the completely wrong way and/or this just isn't actually possible?

I don't know about Sony but I have never had an issue flashing UK or EU ROM's. Best way to find out is backup and flash opne, if it doesn't work restore backup

In my research about the Z2, make sure you read up on it first. I found our sony has some 'drm keys' crap going on, where unlocking the bootloader may permanently disable crucial features such as low light camera support, noise cancellation and other bits and pieces. Theres tutorials on how to root and back up the partition they are on before tinkering further, which i'd highly recommend researching.

Just wanting root at this stage. Might look at custom ROMs once I've had more time to investigate.
