A friend needs a new phone. Must be Android and they are on Skinny. Requirements are a good screen for outdoors especially in bright sunshine, a decent camera which can handle close ups of plants, 4G would be a nice but not strictly necessary and good battery life. They work in a rural location on the edge of the XT boundary and so the battery can take a hammering during the day. Both VF and 2D reception is sketchy at best so XT is their only option.

Also the ability to provide a hotspot would be a huge bonus. I got caught out with a Windows phone once assuming all phones could do this and that one couldn't :(

I would just pick up a second hand Nexus 5 but they prefer new.

Any suggestions ? I've gone off the boil with my Nexus 5 love-in :)

Xperia M4 Aqua has reviewed really well - but is $499 from Spark
Moto G 3rd Edition has also reviewed really well - but isn't available locally yet I believe and is probably closer to $400?

Moto G 2 LTE (last gen, still nice) http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=3002675 - $305

just a heads up the Moto G 2 is 3G only - unless you get the LTE version.

Thanks, LTE is only a bonus. At that price I don't think he can go wrong.

Samsung S5 Mini. My sister and bro in law is happy with the one that they purchased recently on sale from the stationery warehouse. Has an 8megapixel camera and ~700MB ram. Seems to work well for them. On Skinny.

If you can squeeze out another $50, the Nexus 5 is still a very solid option:

This would be my suggestion.

Still a really solid phone. Great dev support still.

Moto G has a really good history of getting android updates quickly - gen 1 moto g for 5 pretty quickly.

What is the latest android release for an S4/Prime?
