Oreo OTA update arrived and installed on my 5x with no issues.
I'm very torn on these reported bootloop issues.
SWMBO needs a new phone, would like something with USB-C, about same size as the 5x, NFC that works with ANZ, reasonable camera, no or minimal bloatware. There's nothing I've seen in similar price to the $400 or less that appeals.

My Nexus 5X updated to Oreo last evening.

All good so far.

No issues with the phone at all. It just works.

My N 5x updated to Oreo. No problems - seems to have longer battery life and many of the more demanding apps are running more sweetly. Why would I every replace this phone!

I received Oreo too and all seems to be working ok.

I did a little reading on the new features but can't seem to find some of them:

Apparently you're meant to be able to change the look of the icons (square, round, etc), but I can't see where I can do that. I've tried following instructions to turn on developer options and then long pressing on an empty area of the home screen, but there's no option to change icon shape.

There should be an option to turn on WiFi automatically when I'm at a location where I've had it on before. This is meant to be turned on in settings at Network & Internet -> Wi-Fi -> Wi-Fi preferences, "Turn on Wi-Fi automatically" switch, but I don't see this option.

Does anyone know if these are meant to be available on the 5X?

The feature to expand notifications by swiping down on the fingerprint scanner is nice.

Apart from Google play services using 400MB background cellular data in the first two days it is going fine for me.

I haven't been able to change the icon style either.

I have turned on the options for the iOS style launcher notification dots, but they aren't showing up - not sure if they are a pixel-only thing?

Google decided not to make this available by default to Nexus users (Pixel only)

However you can turn this one manually, though having it enabled doesn't seem to make any difference for me.

My son'e 5X also updated itself to Oreo about a week ago and now has the boot loop issue! Since it was bought overseas in Australia, it won't be repaired under warranty and Fonefix (the LG agents) quoted me $500 to replace the main board. LG only allows that fix but they said I might be able to find somebody who can actually fix the board.

Not really sure about that so I have purchased him a refurb Pixel for US$380 which I hope will not give the same problem.

I've had the update on my N5X for over a week now and it's not been a great experience, assuming the update is the cause.

Firstly my wifi at home keeps disconnecting and telling me there is no internet connection. It also connected to a SSID which doesn't exist the other day. My neighbours are all a fair distance away and it was a generic Spark-blah SSID so I don't know where it came from.

Secondly each time I open a link on my phone, be it from an app or an email the first attempt to open the relevant app/browser page fails. If I close the opened app/page and click the link again it works perfectly.

I haven't had time to look at it properly yet, I'll leave that until the weekend.

Out of interest has anybody had any experience with an repair place that can fix the bootloop issue without a board replacement?  And I don't mean the hack that's going around that apparently disables some cores on the CPU. Thanks

Did a factory reset yesterday and started from scratch rather than restore a backup and it now works perfectly :)

Been on Oreo since release and it was good.

Last week or so phone has become super slow, can only take 2 HDR photos before I have to wait for processing for ages (used to get 4-5 photos), can wait 5ish seconds chrome to open or a search to start from the search bar and even web page scrolling performance is laggy at times even with pihole blocking a load of junk.

Which leads me to thinking I may have finally found a phone that does everything I need as a replacement after what appears imminent bootloop: NFC, not huge and not a downgrade hopefully... The upcoming Moto X4  - has anyone else got their eye on one?

Bugger.

Just turned to check my phone to see it had turned off. Now it gives me the Google - black screen - Google -black screen treatment :(

Frantically trying to find the receipt now as I'm going passed Warehouse Stationery later today.

What are people replacing there's with ? Stock Android is by far my preference.

One of these might be the story:

(if they ever come to NZ/Aus, with an acceptable price tag)

You could try for one of the new Nokias. I hear Oneplus' are close to "stock".

There's also the Xioami mi A1: http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/10/13/xiaomi-mi-a1-android-one-review-almost-perfect-budget-phone/
