It doesn't say anywhere, unless I missed it - but is there a limit to how many I could buy? 
I ask because I'd be looking at getting 2, one for me and one for my partner?

I don't actually know what kind of numbers they were expecting.

I suspect this is probably more than some stores would sell on launch day, except for that other phone from that other company.
