MrIrish:

Is anyone else hoping that we get the UI update that Touchwiz got on the Note 7?

I wouldn't expect that notable UI changes would likely turn up until 3-4 months after the initial Android N release so I don't expect it'll be this year.

Which is why I am considering ditching my S7 for the upcoming Nexus.

$1k+ for a phone that doesn't get OS updated on a timely basis, no thanks.

(will miss the camera, though)

I am thinking the same, but will miss wireless charging, waterproof etc.  The s7 edge is almost perfect but the slow android core updates always get me down :(

Picked up the S7 Edge a few months back with a Spark $99 plan, but now that the Note 7 has been released, it's very tempting to see if Spark will cut me a deal so I can trade up to the Note 7, though it's not much of a jump and probably not worth it if I have to pay anything extra, the 64GB internal storage, slightly larger screen and updated Touchwiz with s-pen does make it almost worth it. Thoughts?

So it seems the note7 AOD (always on display) can get notifications for 3rd party apps etc (emails etc), The version the Note7 is running is 1.7 yet the edge and s7 is still on 1.3.

I am hoping samsung releases the updated AOD soon for the s7 and edge as right now I find the AOD less than useful as it only displays missed calls and text messages.

Big update for the XSA firmware this morning, second this month.

Now G930FXXU1BPHC, the B denotes a fairly significant change.

The Gallery has been updated to the one from the Note 7. Looks like the Google backup battery drain is fixed also.

hmmm, might be time to make my S7 Australian! Been ages since doing stock Samsung ODIN3 flashing (and they seem to change slightly every iteration), whats the process for flashing XSA firmware but keeping NZ CSCs (?).

A few pages back I saw somebody say that XSA keep their current CSC (i.e didn't wipe).

But you can make sure of that by downloading both firmwares, Flashing BL, CP and PDA from XSA and the CSC_HOME (Not CSC!!! Very important) from the TNZ or whateve rone you are currently using.

CSC_HOME allows you to use your existing CSC with any firmware.

I'm not sure how that affects further OTA updates or whether you would need to repeat the process manually each time.

Thanks for the info.  Which operator are you on by the way, did you bother keeping an NZ CSC?  Is there anything that you'd miss (trying to see whether to bother or not!).

I'm on Spark, but I got rid of their firmware the night I got the S7, I don't miss the awful low res browser icon or low res boot screen.

I've alternated between BTU (UK unlocked) and XSA firmwares and found the XSA one to the best so far. Not missing anything as far as I can tell. Semble worked fine before it got shut down.

The BTU one had a nice alternative to Flipboard called Upday I think, it was decent.

No regrets from using XSA so far.

Does anyone think the S7 will see a price drop in the coming months? Hoping to see a sale where it's under 1k, seeing as the comparable Huawei models and now the iPhone 6S base model are both under $1000.

They've been under a grand for ages. You just have to be prepared to buy from non bigname stores. My go to shop is expert infotech on the north shore, Auckland.

Edit: linkage. Why a tech site can't auto hyperlink is beyond me

I'll definitely check out Expert Infotech, looks like they have it for $832 which is really good.
