DaveB:

johny99: A phone will not crack itself..... The amount of times customers try this on is amazing, yea I get it they never intended to damage their phone, but that's what insurance is for (if they payout that is).

Hmmm ... we have gone from a hairline facture which is (upon closer inspection) just a scratch to a full blown crack in just a few posts. I am questioning the resilience of this new Gorilla Glass 5 and acknowledge that quite possibly a naked Note 7 will not stand up to the wear and tear that maybe my Note 2, 3 and 4 did. So maybe a full case when my new one arrives.

But yeah, people try it on. I work in an industry closely related to insurance and just when you thought you had seen it all .......... along comes another bright inventive soul lol.

A hairline fracture is a small crack..

It still seems to me that a fairly expensive device ought not to break at all under normal use in 10 days.

One thing that I don't think has been mentioned here yet - if you have returned your N7, did you also return the 128GB memory card? I didn't and wasn't asked for it. Wondering whether the replacement units will have a card bundled. Probably not - but if not, retailers may need to have two versions of each colour - one without free card and one with free card (assuming future new sales will still have the bundled card incentive).

I was asked for mine but then called afterward to say I could keep it. I've asked them to keep it aside for me so I can pick it up again at the time of the collection of the new N7.

Has anyone who had a N7 (and who has taken it back awaiting a replacement) had any second thoughts following the announcement of the iPhone 7/7+ this morning?

For the first time ever, I watched the whole Apple presentation live this morning. Wasn't at all interested in Apple Music, iWatch (with Mario, Pokemon, Nike, new straps etc) - but the iPhone part was quite impressive. At the end, I was thinking "... Hmmmm...". Was a bit affected by all the Apple slickness and hype on stage.

But then I thought about how great the N7 actually was in the two weeks that I had it. Also started at say $1,600 - then $300 off from the retailer, got a still-sealed J5 (which I don't want or need and will sell for $250-$300) - plus free 128GB memory card. Ended up with 64+128GB cutting-edge large phone for about $1,000 - so very happy with all this and looking forward to the replacement.

Apple make a pretty good phone, i have just never liked the software. I bought a ipad once a few years ago, i ran through the siftware top to bottom. It felt so restricted and limited. Someone asked me what i thought once. I said yea its great... as a paperweight.

Samsung are creating a online imei checker tool to see what battery you have.

No point using it with current devices. All made outside china and hong kong have the faulty battery. This tool will be useful to verify we have the right device.

Totally agree on the 'restricted and limiting'. I'm not at all anti-Apple - I have an iPad Air 2 and absolutely love it - glued to it most of the day. But I don't really want a phone that's pretty much the same device on a smaller scale. Have always had Android phones since they arrived on the market (Symbian before that) and I really enjoy have a foot firmly in each camp.

Have never had a Mac bug used one for a few weeks earlier this year and thought the 'restricted and limiting' feeling was oven more prevalent there. Will be buying a new decent-spec ultra-portable laptop shortly and it will be Windows 10-er (Asus Zenbook 3 - when they finally get here).

Its good to know that feeling is shared. Yea apple make good products, i think they are great for less avid and non tech savy people. Like our parents.
But yea i rape the hell out of software, abusing its potential top to bottom. "I want to be free".

Dan: I think your very long link posted and copied above is causing a text-wrapping problem in this thread. I have asked Mod Mauricio to fix it but he's AWOL.

By wrapping do you mean like the problem i have where the posts drift of the edge and you cant see all the writing ?.
Think thats a limitation of the web design.

Il shrink the link to just a word.

Yep - it's caused by very long URL links.
