Hello

I'm after a new phone, to replace my Galaxy S3 mini.  I don't need a top end phone and as such have been toying with the idea of an LG G4 or a Huawei P9 Lite.  The G4 is technically superior and also more expensive, while the P9 Lite appears capable but also cheaper.

The P9 Lite comes in two flavours; 2GB and 3GB RAM versions.  Does anybody have any feelings about this?  I can't seem to find any 3GB versions anywhere and I wonder whether the 2GB will be hampered in anyway.  Obviously this will be a fair improvement over my current phone but I tend to keep things for a while so don't want it to struggle too much in to the future.

The second question relates to the screen.  The LG G4 has Gorilla Glass 3, where as the P9 lite is only a glass screen... Is it likely to be annoying in this case?  How susceptible to scratches would this be?  Any thoughts are appreciated.

Cheers,

Chris

I don't bother with screen protectors on Gorilla glass screens. However for non Gorilla glass screens I'd look at at Tempered glass screen protector from some where like this.

Have you looked at the Mi5? Great phone for the money.

Another option could be the Huawei P8 - previous generation phone, but not cut-down. My wife got one for $350, and at the moment the cheapest is $399 (The Warehouse). She loves it.

My preference is normally to go for top-spec previous gen as opposed to current series cut-down.

And personally I stick tempered glass screen protectors on all phones, whether or not they have Gorilla Glass. The quality of the finish is way better than the old plastic ones, and for a few dollars it offers a cheap way of decreasing the chance of an expensive mistake....

That's a good call, similar to the G4 vs. G5; last year flagship for a lot cheaper... Obviously OS updates are important to me, what's the P8 at and does anybody know if it will get EUMI 5 and Android 7?

Another question, do I really need a removable battery?  I like the G4 for that respect but I'm not sure if that really makes the P9 Lite / P8 any worse?  Are there any issues with having a fixed battery now?
