It only started doing after a recent update - not sure if it was the firmware or the google app itself.

anyone else getting warning messages pop up about the use of the microphone?

ie when im recording a video on the camera i get a warning message about com.android.google is unable to use the record right now. pretty sure its only just happened since the last update

Yeah. You need to turn off Google voice from any screen to fix that. Apparently the microphone can't be used by multiple apps at the same time.

What I found is that just turning off Google voice recognition is not enough - even more if you have Google Assistant enabled. You have to open Google, Voice Activation and deleted the trained voice. This will disabled "Ok Google" altogether. Since I don't use "Ok Google" that's fine for me. You can still start Google Assistant or Google Now by long-pressing the home button and then speak your question/command.

Huawei and premium-lifestyle brand Porsche Design have collaborated to introduce the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9, being launched in New Zealand now.

The Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9 is a limited edition smartphone combining Porsche Design’s signature brand aesthetic with Huawei’s mobile engineering expertise, giving high-demanding individuals unprecedented luxury and performance in the palm of their hand.

The underlying philosophy for all Porsche Design products, including the new Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9 is to create an equilibrium of aesthetics and function. Those values stem from the design philosophy of Porsche Design’s founder - Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche – who designed the legendary Porsche 911 in 1963.

Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9 features seamless curved edges, a graphite finish and stylish black coloring combined with the latest technology. This is perfectly complemented ‘under the hood’ by a unique, intuitive user interface that exudes sophistication thanks to Porsche Design’s signature design language. With a shared commitment to functional design, innovative craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology, the collaboration delivers highly discerning customers an unrivalled, premium smartphone experience; with revolutionary speed, extensive battery life and luxurious design cues.

Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9 is based on the Kirin 960 chipset, the world’s highest performing smartphone processor, according to Geekbench 4.0.0 multi-core CPU performance and DDR performance.

The dual SIM card enables business travelers to switch very conveniently between two different SIM cards everywhere in the world.

The smartphone also sports SuperCharge technology and a battery which lasts up to two days with normal use and second generation Leica dual-lens camera with Hybrid Zoom, featuring a 12-megapixel RGB sensor and a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor.

“Huawei’s brand ethos mirrors our own commitment to premium innovation and functional design so we are delighted to partner with Huawei to bring high-performance individuals the smartphone that they demand, and deserve, says Dr. Jan Becker, COO and spokesperson of the Management Board of Porsche Design Group. “The DNA of our brand is reflected in the device’s signature Porsche Design, giving consumers a smartphone that is as beautiful to hold, as it is to use.”

“We identified a new type of luxury consumer is emerging. One who needs a smartphone that matches the special demands of their successful, global lifestyles,” said Richard Yu, CEO, Huawei Consumer Business Group. “Porsche Design is synonymous with excellence in innovation, unique design and perfection. The Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9 sets a new benchmark in design and performance and delivers a revolutionary smartphone experience that will enhance even the fastest-paced business and personal lifestyles.”

Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9 is the next step in Huawei’s strategy of collaborative innovation and Porsche Design’s extension of the brand’s electronics category. By fusing PORSCHE DESIGN’S style with Huawei’s engineering perfection and technical innovation, the revolutionary limited edition Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9 is one of the most finely crafted premium devices available to consumers.

Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9 is available now at Noel Leeming with a recommended retail price of $1,399.

Krishant007:

How is everyone liking the Mate9? Have Huawei made improvements on their EMUI? Is it bearable than Samsung Touchwiz?

EMUI is weird, at least the 4.x version on the P9 (not mate9) is. I replaced the launcher with Nova.

EMUI is miles from stock Android, in a bad way. Finding settings can be tricky, but you work it out eventually. Huawei try to reduce power use, but as a result I can't get some applications to show notifications, even after all the settings are right.

I think the hardware is good, and overall it's not a bad phone, but I would go for something closer to stock Android in the future. Touchwiz is likely better - I used it on the S4 and liked it, again with Nova Launcher.

im pretty sure its not like that in EMUI 5.0 so your comments are not very relevant in this thread as the phone doesn't run your version of EMUI.

EMUI 5 is a big step up over EMUI 4.

I replaced it with a Nillkin H+ Pro tempered glass. As the screen is slightly curved, the protector doesn't quite reache the sides of the viewable area.

I can live with it though - feels much nicer and doesn't get as grubby as the stock protector and got used to looking at the slight gap after a couple of days.

Hey folks, please disregard the press release I posted before - the Porsche Design model was not released in New Zealand - it was the Mte 9 Pro. A problem with the press release... release.

Seems really late in the game and almost pointless to release it now, especially at that quote price. If it came in at 899 or 999 then perhaps. But with the P10 Plus up and the Mate 10 not all that far away this seems a little pointless from Huawei
