Walked around London today, taking photos, uploading to Messenger, using Here Maps and more. By the end of the day (from 7am to 8pm) the phone was down to 50%. I consider this a good result - my other handset (a Huwaei P9) would probably be done by then.

How is the performance of the phone in general everyday use? Are the apps and interface snappy, how bad is the lag?

Kickass:

I just noticed Noel Leeming have put up a banner on their homepage for this.

https://www.noelleeming.co.nz/150125

$1099 with Bonus 64GB Micro SD Card

Not a bad price considering its 699 euros

Seems like they are already discounting this - now includes a bonus $250 Gift card for the next few days if you pre order + a Bonus 64GB Memory card!! Seems like a good deal if you want to pick one up.

How is everyone finding their phones? Im considering getting one for me and my wife as a replacement for a 3 and a bit year old Sony Xperia SP.

It's a brilliant phone. So fast, you won't believe it. Larger screen compared to the Huawei P9 makes a big difference. Battery life is astounding.

I'm holding out for the Pro review, see if there is much difference.

Just picked up a Mate 9 yesterday for my wife, the Noel Lemming guy I talked to said they only had 20 in the country maybe sales tactic, he noted the next batch may take a little while to arrive when they are sold out, also these comments were after I have bought the phone. Anyway lovely looking phone in Mocha Brown colour looks bronze'ish. The phone has now gone back under the tree till Christmas I'll have a play then in setting up the phone :).

Interesting the guys did not mention the free SD card I'll go back and fine out about that, does anyone know why brand / model of card was it BTW.

One thing to be mindful with the Mates is being sure re compatibility if you use a smart watch.

I bought a Mate 8 recently, which otherwise is a fantastic phone (and so pleased I trusted NikT's advice re buying an 'old' model), but I'm having significant difficulties connecting it to my Samsung Gear S2 despite this phone being listed as compatible on Samsung's website. I wonder if it's partly caused by the significant degree of skinning EMUI places over Android? While I've found some advice re this (including using an older version of the Gear plugin) the best I've got is everything working - other than the watch being four hours late, with no ability to alter this!

Not sure if the Mate 9 has the same issue, but if so something better to know before buying. In my case if I can't solve the problem I'll probably end up selling the phone...

And for anyone debating about the size of the Mate - yep, it's damn large in the pocket, so a bit frustrating in that regard, but the larger screen real estate is revelatory; it's always shocking when I go back to using the mere 5.5" on my old G3. I also have no issue with the relatively low resolution of the screen compared to the G3.

Mind you, the phone is very slippery. I found it out the hard no way.

The Nillkin silicone case is pretty thin but provides decent grip so removes the slipperiness of the phone itself; it also has a 'plug' for the USB port. Of course, the worst thing about any case is it removes the premium feeling of having an all-metal phone, so it may as well be made of plastic! I've got the Mate 8 version of this case, and would certainly recommend it.

Hi Freitasm,

Sorry to hear about your Mate 9 how buggered is it, as you have conducted an unofficial drop test what can you share as learning's. I'm guessing from what you have said a grippy case is mandatory.
