I bought a m3s for my wife who hates change. Probably wasn't a smart move on my part. Bigger and different from anything she's had in the past. But she loves it after only using it since christmas. Unfortunately it has a few very annoying glitches - which as far as i can tell don't appear to be Flyme issues, because no one else (in flyme world) is having them.

 

#1 Contacts sync hangs for huge periods of time. (Then randomly succeeds). - this seems to be a common occurrence over the last few years across all android devices. the general advice seems to be 'fix your contacts.' however non of the fixes seem to work.  I would be fine with non syncing, except that it locks up everything else i.e. no new emails/calendar events.  

 

#2 Youtube Login - more of a gripe than an issue, although could be related to #3. When opening the youtube app, and attempting to login, it has correctly detected the google account, but states that the network is unreachable and to try again later. tapping the "+" button to add new account, then going back, magically logs in as the user that was in the list to begin with. 

 

#3 Youtube network connectivity issues. - At random points in time (have not been able to reproduce reliably yet) the youtube app will cease working stating network connectivity problems, try again later. I have found that clearing app cache & data resolves this but.... GOTO #2 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

So last night i took the device and performed hard reset from recovery. Turn it on, and was very surprised to see personal data (photos) still there. (Did it really reset??) Youtube Issues #2 still exists, but the contact sync seems resolved (for now) will wait and see if #1 or #3 return.

Yes, 5.x.x.12 (The update released on the 24th.)

When doing a hard reset should all data have been erased? i.e. photos.

Oh and new issue since the hard-reset is that contacts in google are mostly stored as 02x xxx xxx numbers, and its appears the dialer/contacts app and the messaging app can match them to the incoming +642xx xxx numbers. is there a way to correct this without editing all the contacts?

There are two checkboxes in the Factory Data Reset menu - one to erase app data and accounts, and one to erase all media stored on the device. You need to check both to wipe out everything.

+642xxxxxx  is the normal format  contacts  saved on cell phones.   I guess you would have to manually re-edit them to any other format

I had two options - system upgrade, and erase data. 

 

 

 

As I had already done the upgrade, I left that unticked, and only checked the erase data option. 

 

 

 

If editing numbers is the proper way - might just swap out the default dialer/contacts/messages app with something that can reconcile the numbers. Don't think my wife would appreciate being told to edit hundred of contacts.

That sounds like you were using an update package through the file explorer rather than factory data reset through the settings menu.

Was deffinatly not through the file explorer. 

 

 

 

Steps I followed

 

1. Turn phone off

 

2. Hold vol-up + Power 

 

3. Release when logo appears

 

4. This image appears: 

 

n.b. I chose clear data, not system upgrade, the same as this image shows.

Use the settings/storage/factory data reset menu for a full factory reset, not the recovery mode. :)

That seems a bit misleading, when every other device i've owned using recovery mode to reset performs a full wipe. Is it a common practise to function this way. 

 

 

 

F.Y.I. i followed the instructions from http://www.hardreset.info/devices/meizu/meizu-m3s/ thinking recovery option was going to be the preferred option.

Nah, recovery mode isn't the standard way to factory reset an Android device. It will usually work, but in Meizu's case it's intended to be used for recovering the system from a serious error or instability rather than completely wiping the system (Hence erasing apps and settings while leaving media). Is also that way because Meizu devices allow root access out of the box.

New issue have come up - google calendar does not appear to be syncing.

 

 

 

In the google account settings page the calendar sync is taking a loooong timme, but eventually finishes and updated the last sync time. however regardless of which calendars i choose to show in the calendar app, no events are shown

 

 

 

 

 

Ideas?

On a random brainwave I installed google calendar, which gave indication that it was syncing after a while (in app syncing) then all expected events showed up. and they appear in the default calendar and google calendar. 

 

 

 

So I guess this is a non-issue.

New issue has come to light - after using the GPS once, and closing the app, it fails to receive update when you reopen the app. I've only seen this happen with google maps. But users on the flyme forums are experiencing this with all GPS enabled apps. The feedback seems to be 'wait until a new version'.
