Has anyone actually received their order from PBTech online? They're not responding and I'm getting a little miffed that it's now the actual release date and I still don't have a phone.

The release date is the 5th of May. :)

Which colour/size did you order? Turned out Samsung's distribution partner didn't ship the black or gold S8+ units out on Friday as expected.. All retailers were affected AFAIK. They arrived over the weekend, but without the SD cards, so everyone's been frantically sorting that out today. All colours of S8 and the Orchid Grey S8+ went out Friday as expected, hopefully you've got an email with a tracking number by now.

Has been a fun launch.

No shipping today for Black S8+ for me

" Due to unforeseen circumstances, your order has been delayed. It’s still arriving from our supplier and would hopefully come in tomorrow and be sent same day"

OK. I'm in!

So far, very impressive.

Software update running almost immediately (something to do with Bixby and Dex) and Google is busy transferring apps and so on as I type this.

Physically it actually is a TARDIS. Side by side with my Sony XZ, the S8 really is not that much bigger physically but the screen sure is bigger by miles!

More later.

Are you ditching the XZ in favour of the S8?

Where did the XZ fall short that you went looking for a replacement so soon after getting it?

(I ask because my past Sony Xperia Z2 remains my favourite phone to date, so keen to hear your feedback).

Lol yea I did realise that after I had posted :)

Bot no, still no tracking details, order is still showing as awaiting stock. Sigh. It wouldn't be so bad but I'm upgrading 'cause my current phone is really dying. If I don't keep it on a charger, it's dead within an hour. Not the best...

cokeman2: Guys who are waiting on there orders at pbtec...i picked up my s8+ yesterday minus the 256gb sd card which Samsung stuffed up according to pbtec.i got the power pack bundle, best you ring them up could be sitting there awaiting the card

Did you order in store or select in store pickup? I'd gladly go to my local to pick it up but I ordered online for delivery.

It'd be kinda crappy if they weren't giving customers the option of sending the sd card later and sending the phones now. I've still not even had a reply to my email from them. Just some communication would be nice. Don't they know I can't afford to sit at my desk refreshing my browser every 5min to see if the status has changed? lol

The XZ is nice phone. There's not one reason I opted for change.

  • Sony failed to get various accessories to market such as fast charger etc
  • The screen is good. S8 screen is just way better
  • XZ Premium might turn out to be what XZ should have been
  • Samsung eco system is better supported for cases, accessories and so on
  • Battery in XZ leaves a bit to be desired
  • XZ Premium probably won't be subsidised on VF

The XZ has some great features, for example the finger print reader placement is genius.

This S8+ is a whole other game though.

Ordered my S8+ Black On Sunday last week from my local 2Degrees store (Dunedin). Was due to arrive last Friday but was delayed by a day and I picked it up on Saturday afternoon. So far am loving the phone overall apart from a few little pains. Not a great fan of the fingerprint reader but the iris scanner works without a hitch so not too much of an issue. Hoping Lastpass & other apps that can use the fingerprint reader can get access to the iris scanner.

In the box is a USB dongle that allows USB to USB connections to another phone so you can transfer everything over to new phone. Did notice an interesting thing when I first connected it to my old phone, you can use the S8+ as a battery bank for other devices.

Battery life so far is good. My old S6 couldn't even make it to the end of the working day without needing a top up while the 8+ today still had 30% when I got home and I used loads of screen time & GPS today.

Overall, very happy with the new phone. All I need to do now is play with more of the settings and see what they all do.

By the sounds of it, my workmate is one of the lucky ones to have received his black S8 today with everything he pre-ordered on 21/04 from PB Tech online with the power bank & wireless charger bundle. He would have liked the VR bundle but he unfortunately missed out.

Does anyone know how to remove the help text from the bottom of the lock screen?

So after a few days I have to say I am very happy with the phone, the battery last me a whole day (where i was charging the oneplus 3 in the car when traveling). The screen is great, easier to hold.  Even going down to just 1 phone (first time in years). Have already sold the xperia xz and selling the oneplus 3 now.

Happy for him, annoying for me. I preordered on the 20th in the wee hours of the morning and still don't have mine. The hype is dead and I'm a little disappointed in the lack of communication from PBTech, not at all like their usual service.

My experience is similar. Now that I've managed to deal with the kinks involved in setting up, the phone really is excellent.

It offers interesting features like customised sound for your ears - something I never had on an Apple device. It's well built and simply gorgeous.

The camera is better than my iPhone and the Sony xz, not that I am a massive phone camera user, but it's reasonably competent for every day stuff.

Screen is fab.

At the moment I'm just trying not to mark it or drop it before my case arrives! 🤣
