I'm sure that this is a dumb question, but how do you output sound to a chrome cast?
My Sony just has a wee icon in the top bar. The Galaxy does not seem to have that.

So after a few days I have to say I am very happy with the phone, the battery last me a whole day (where i was charging the oneplus 3 in the car when traveling). The screen is great, easier to hold. Even going down to just 1 phone (first time in years). Have already sold the xperia xz and selling the oneplus 3 now.
My experience is similar. Now that I've managed to deal with the kinks involved in setting up, the phone really is excellent.
It offers interesting features like customised sound for your ears - something I never had on an Apple device. It's well built and simply gorgeous.
The camera is better than my iPhone and the Sony xz, not that I am a massive phone camera user, but it's reasonably competent for every day stuff.
Screen is fab.
At the moment I'm just trying not to mark it or drop it before my case arrives! 🤣
The S8 dilemma:
It's far too beautiful to hide inside a case ...
It's way too fragile to run with outside of a case ...
So, for you who are gaming, especially Clash of Clans, by default it will try and game at 1080P, which looks ok at first glance, but makes the text look terrible. Download Samsung game tuner and set it to maximum resolution. Probably drains battery faster, but it was driving me nuts. I hope they fix the black bars on the sides of my games. Not liking it.

Guys, quote with care, there is a lot of text being quoted, that doesn't serve a purpose :)

My S8 has samsung connect which shows things connected to it in the pull down notifications, it lets me send things to where i want them (i.e. bluetooth sounds etc).

If only it was easier for the non-IT people amongst us to delete it without getting rude messages about "tags" we don't understand..!
Must be time for more up to date forum software...

Mine also but so far it just shows my plantronics headset. Google Home recognises and lists the Chromecast. However I see no option to stream Apple Music, like I can on the Xperia.

Yes, I agree the quoting system isn't particularly user-friendly, though replacement of forum software is an exceptionally resource intensive. Probably not justified on that reason alone (though I have no knowledge of any plans either way).
So. I just took the opportunity to watch the first 5 minutes of The Grand Tour, which I have never seen.
OMFG. It's like having a TV in your pocket at last. The quality, colour and sharpness are absolutely stunning.
Just freaking awesome. No reason to own a tablet with phones like this around.
Also, the fuss over the fingerprint scanner position must have been from people with midget hands. Yes, there are better places but it really isn't THAT bad. Sony's implementation where it is incorporated into the Power button is better, although just having the phone read your finger as you press the glass where the 'home button' is will be the best until the phone can sync with the chip the aliens put in my head.

Happy to take your word for it - I haven't a clue what it involves!!

I have found having a case has fix any issue i had with where the finger print scanner is. sure it would be better in the middle but i no long press the camera.
Having a cover just splits the camera and fingerprint scanner out just enough so you can tell the differences.
