Maybe you could just put multiple apps in a folder, then finger drag the folder. Take them out of the folder at their new location. Not exactly what you were asking I know, but it is certainly how I do it when I want to make wholesale changes to my homescreens.

Folder Explorer opens up a whole new world. I suggest you take a look if you are fed up of app updates causing your icons to disappear or move from one page to the next.
