Jaquie, take to mind the pedantic and picky nature of many of the posters here. we are only talking about a few dollars which would be hardly noticed. Sure there is the principle of the matter, but big companies have been screwing us over for years with worse things than $2.50 and we just roll over and take it.

I just downloaded your app for the first time. I like it! Its well made, nice color, all the things I need are there. Be happy with your product, its good.

The widget is also really nice, sure a variety of sizes would be good however we are only a very small market, and you would be doing it for love, not money.

I would like to see some automation tools incorporated, such as when the Current Temp = Set Temp, then an alarm might go off, etc. It would be good for farmers and their crops etc. Or an alarm for frost, rain, How about surf conditions for fishermen, surfers as well etc.

All that would be fun to code and could be on a premium version.

Adverts could be removed for people by enabling an Adverts Off button in settings for people who have / will pay.

Personally I don't see any adverts on my phone anyway, which is an option that people could choose if they dislike them.

The Freemium model would be the best way to recoup the expenses of creating the app.  Alternatively, I know a bunch of amateur student coders who would love access to your API to make different versions for fun using Xamarin. We could have a profit sharing model 50/50 or just promise not to publish them, and do it for the experience.

It would be a great creative  opportunity to see what can be done with the data you have access to.

You said this is the first time you have downloaded the app, so you have no experience with the old app that everyone is comparing it with?

Yet you call them pedantic?

hmmm.

It's not the $2.5, it's that some are seeing this as a downgrade plus the addition of adverts after people paid for an ad-free version.
There was no choice or warning.  I believe some people have raised official complaints to ComCom.

Not joking :)

Hehe,   Yeah I know a couple of people that have.  You just have to read the android play store reviews to see the anger out there.
I was disappointed with the change but I have just deleted it and replaced it and now using default samsung widget and using weather watch now.

Was a happy user of the paid app for several years. Can live with the ads, main issue for me is the loss of the 4x1 widget. The 4x2 does not suit my home screen preferences, and losing this was aggravating. App uninstalled.

My new Metservice app has large blank spaces where I think ads should be. I think I may have a problem with my phone's hosts file. I also seem to able to somehow resize the 4x2 widget using Apex launcher.

[EDIT: Tongue firmly in cheek]

I've noticed the widget fails to load weather information a few times a day... Maybe server overloaded since everything else on my phone is working fine. A tap on the refresh button usually loads the information.

Actually, on reflection the blank spaces could be deliberate. I like the hosts file.

Sounds like you have AdAway or similar installed.

A variant of this is the most frustrating for me - the widget and main app will often load the min and max for the day but not the current temperature, which is what I typically want to know say in the morning before venturing out for a run... yep, refreshing it usually pulls in that information but still an unnecessary hassle and wasted time - a key advantage of widgets is getting the information you want from a quick glance.

Only reason I use the metservice app is for the rain radar. If the in-built iOS weather app had that I'd just use that.

Hi all, just letting you know that we are continuing to listen to your feedback, as always.

Re the size of the widget, I believe we were wanting to ensure the warnings would fit and be visible. We are keen to hear your views on widget size, as we're looking to add more options in the next quarter. 4x1 has come through loud and clear! :)

Thanks to those of you who've looked beyond the advertising/no advertising debate to see what the new app delivers. Quality and usefulness/usability of weather and related information is where we've looked to add value in all of our app releases (we've never promoted the ad-free aspect). You will definitely find more information in this new version.

Keep the feedback on features and usability coming!

Cheers

I'm getting used to the app, but one thing I've noticed is that as you travel around it doesn't always update the current location.  I often find I that when I get to work in the morning and throughout the day it still says my home location (Titahi bay).  On the iPhone if I doduble tap the home button and swipe the app up to close it, it will update.

The old app would always update.  And, yes, I have pulled down within the app to refresh.  Just wondering if anyone else is seeing this?

P.S.  I am referring to the first location that is GPS based.

A few things that could be improved in the iOS version.

#1 It will not update to a new location on opening, instead displaying the location where it was previously opened. The only way get it to update is to double click the home button and flick the MetService app out of the app switcher and then relaunch the app. As has already been posted.

#2 The MetService TV video plays upside down if you are right handed, it will not rotate to the correct orientation. All other apps on the phone rotate correctly.

#3 The Traffic Cams, it loads thumbnails of the three northernmost cams witch are too small and not the current destination, useless. It would be more useful to just load one cam, the full width of the module that is closest to the current location. Also on the screen with the map and cam there is too much white space, this could be reduced by over 60% on the cam name and removed altogether at the top of the screen just leaving the buttons in the corners making the map more useful.

#4 The 48 Forecast, this could be made more readable by showing the nighttime, increasing the time, rain and wind font by 4-6 points and removing "mm","km/h" to the info panel, see the modified screenshot.
It is usual to read left to right and top to bottom therefore the wind speed should be above the direction not E >> 45km/h.

#5 In the privacy settings there is a switch to Limit Ad Tracking, when this is on the MetService Ad/promo doesn't load, when it is off the MetService Ad/promo loads this would suggest that it is collecting data from the phone.
