This is something that's really getting annoying now. I have a Huawei P10 Plus (and this also happens on a Huawei Mate 9 as well) to the point of some notifications (Ring doorbell) being lost. I know of these not happening because I have a Vodafone Smart V8 for testing and while nothing shows up on the P10 Plus, the Vodafone device happily shows the notification.

All the battery saving settings are turned off. For example I open a couple of apps at night before going to bed - when I get up in the morning and look at the tasks running there aren't any - all apps are closed.

This is specially annoying with Ring, Tile, Life360 which are apps that need to be awake to update location, etc. Also Health Mate (Withings) which doesn't sync my watch automatically unless it's running but it keeps getting closed.

Interestingly notifications for other applications won't fail - Messenger, Signal, Facebook, Twitter.

On my Vodafone V8 test handset apps will still be in the task list even after a restart.

Any ideas on how to change this behaviour?

I'm using the P9, which is obviously an older version, but I've run into this same problem. I haven't solved it fully. Some apps will stay open, some won't, and I can't find a pattern.

Try going to Settings > Advanced Settings > Battery Manager > protected Apps.

The description implies that you can stop apps from being turned off, but not 100% sure it works myself.

This is a P9 Lite.

The Protected Apps setting is the only way I've found to try and combat this problem with the P8 owned by Miss16.

That's how it's done with my S7 Edge

There is another settings button at the bottom of the apps screen. open that.

special access

ignore optimisations

change view to all apps, then choose the ones you want to ignore optimisations.

Thanks - yes, I had some apps in the "Ignore" category, added some more to see if that helps.

hmmmm - thats a bugger then.

I got the p10 plus a week ago. It's awesome, but going to get a bit frustrated if this is a problem.

Lock them in the app switcher as well. The Phone Manager lock screen cleanup is a white/blacklist of 'kick this stuff out of memory automatically after the screen has been off for a while', the app switcher lock is a 'keep this in memory when memory is running low during use' toggle. Using a Mate 9 as my daily driver right now and personally love the advanced battery management features over vanilla Android as there's a much lower chance of a random app going rogue and smashing standby, but it could definitely be explained better in the UI.

You might be onto something here... I've changed this when I read your reply and hours later those apps are still listed as active. Let's see tomorrow morning.
