My wife had a P8 and P9 and I think if you change enough badly explained settings you should be able to stop it.  VLC pulled support for Huawei in frustration over this:

I am 50/50 on if I like this feature as stock Android's battery management has always been so weak that the big brands built their own task management layer so you now have doze mode and whatever the manufacturer adds.  Samsung have something similar.

This 'feature' and Huawei's new policy removing support for unlockable bootloader is why I'll never get another Huawei.

The hardware might be nice but I don't like Huawei's version of Android and without the ability to mod the software, I'd never be happy.

My wife never figured it out on her Huawei phones. It frustrated the hell out of her and her technical team were of no help. When her last one died a toilet death she did not want to revisist that nightmare so I gave her my Samsung Note 8.

aggressive power saving will reduce user experience of some apps, while other apps using push notification still work well. I believe Huawei would be alone, samsung or others might use same policy in future since all companies has been concerning about battery time.

Good news, guys!

Good news for Huawei's users. Huawei finally released full OS upgrade at the end of last month, and fixed the bug killing apps in the background on EMUI8.0.

However, please remember to change battery launch from automatically to mannually and check all three options.

Moreover, don't forget to go to app's special access to make app excempt from battery optimization

Good Luck!

I just got a Nova 3i and was wondering why some notifications weren't coming through. I'll see if these settings work.

my phone is mate9, downloaded 3.1GB upgrade package, which was released on Oct 18. Previous version of emui8.0  would  killing apps in background.

Hence, you need to upgrade to  the latest version first if such upgrading package is available. Now all my apps works as great as in emui5.0

You never know it if don't try.

1. upgrade emui8.0 to the version released in Oct ( might be different for different model)

2. remove related apps from any optimization of battery saving.
