I'm looking at getting a second wireless charger for the office, and someone here suggested a good cheap charging base from Aliexpress. I've also seen recommendations for Choetech chargers from Amazon.  However, it seems that some of these chargers don't come with the fast charge wall adaptors, or they are US-style chargers.  So, does anyone have any recommendations for the fast charge NZ wall adaptors necessary to drive the fast charge wireless pads? And for that matter, it would be good to pick up a few spare USB-C cables to have around the house - any recommendations there?

i just bought one of these today

Hey all,

Recently decided to get a Note8 and have to say I'm pretty pleased with it!  Definitely a massive upgrade on my 5 year old Lumia!

Not sure if this has been mentioned already, apologies if it has - 36 pages is alot to get through, but I was having a look at the clear view covers on the samsung website and noticed a massive $50 discount on the grey case - have ordered and seems to have gone through..

Oddly, the black/gold covers don't have the same discount...

Thanks for the heads up on the case. Have just ordered one following your link - $50 off and free shipping is a good deal.

Thing I love about that cover as well as being a stand, answering calls with case closed, is in the fairly unlikely event something should fall onto your phone the thickness of the front cover will hopefully avoid the unthinkable from happening. Oem fitment too

Don't need one, not a big fan of the design.. bought one anyway because of the special price.

Thanks for the heads up

Any idea how I get Google Assistant working on the Note 8? I've changed language to English US and done a bit of googling but nothing has worked.

I'm looking forward to discovering all that Bixby has to offer, but want Google Assistant as well.

Try clearing the cache for the Google app. I think I had to do that on mine before getting Google Assistant to come up as just changing the language didn't initially work for me as well.

Settings --> Apps --> dot-menu --> Default Apps --> Device Assistance App --> Select Google.

You may also need to find "Bixby" and "Reset Defaults".

Big Bixby update came through today, working much better.

Now to get the hang of Bixby.

Also, love how fast this phone is.

Anyone tried the screen protectors available from the major retailers? Tech21/Invisishield etc?

Dropped my S7 yesterday and WD still hasn't arrived from mobilefun yet, so looking for something that will temporarily protect it for me. Bought a "cheap" $25 one from a mall shop, but it's ridiculously crap, so going to take it back.

I would just go naked, but when i last owned a note (4), i decided to use it while waiting for a case to come from Amazon, and promptly dropped it and cracked the screen in the meantime. Sounds like i'm a serial dropper. but only those two incidents in the roughly 16+ years i've owned phones. Would be just my luck though. I have a case for drop protection, just don't want to scratch the screen somehow between now and the WD arriving

Hi LazyDr,

I popped into Spark to get my SIM Card sorted for the Note8 and while I was there picked up a Spark home brand glass screen protector look good sticks fine https://www.spark.co.nz/shop/mobile/accessories/spark-screen-protector-for-note8---glass-1-pk/ .

Thanks for the suggestion, they were out of stock at the Spark outlet near me. Ended up with an $8 thin protector that doesn’t quite cover the screen fully, but will at least give me some piece of mind until the other one arrives

I just received two fast wireless chargers I ordered from Amazon.  Same brand but different models/styles.  They are Pleson branded, and were quite reasonably priced.  Links below:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06ZYLQ2TP/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MRXM473/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Having tested them out last night and this morning, these look pretty good.  They are indeed fast wireless chargers, and curiously even work with the *probably* fake Samsung Adaptive Fast Charger I bought off Trademe.  That AFC would fast charge via cable, but not when connected to my 100% genuine Samsung Wireless Fast Charger (hence my suspicion that it was probably fake).  However, that same AFC when plugged in to these Pleson fast chargers do indeed provide fast wireless charging.  So, thumbs up there!

The vertical stand is great.  Feels well built, and the size is nice and discreet.  When you put the Note 8 on the charger, it sits nicely and fills the space.  There's a light bar on the front to show its working, but then the light goes off so it doesn't distract, making it good for a bedside table.  I just topped off the battery from about 85% and it didn't get too warm, but I did notice when charging last night from about 15% that the flat pad made the phone a bit warm.  This might have something to do with the rate it's pumping into the battery at that level.  I think it tapers off when the battery gets fuller, so maybe the heat thing is only an issue when the battery is really low.

The flat pad is quite small, and it is a little tricky to get the phone to line up to charge properly.  It's got a light ring on the pad to show when it's charging.  It doesn't feel quite as well built as the vertical stand model, but still good enough especially for the price.  I paid $60NZD for both chargers, shipped direct  Considering the Samsung-branded chargers start at ~$100, I figured that's a pretty good deal.

Overall, very happy with these two chargers.
