Dear Vodafone, when is my S8 going to get Android Pie. We are always the last to get these updates, everyone else in the world has pie, but no pie on my genuine Vodafone S8. Disgraceful!

Chorus has spent $1.4 billion on making their xDSL broadband network faster. If your still stuck on ADSL or VDSL, why not spend from $150 on a master filter install to make sure you are getting the most out of your connection?

45 mins later... Update finished.

First major changes.... the cloxk moved over to the left! Gonna have to get used to that.

Everything has that new material look Google is going for, I think I like it. Animations seem a bit flashier with swipes here and there.

The new "pill style" navbar doesn't come up by default which confused me. A quick search shows you gotta manually change that in the gestures menu

Is it even more 'locked down' to what Google's idea of what a mobile operating system should be? I have noticed with each new version of Android, having things the way you want them becomes less and less of an option unless you want to root the phone.

You can't have your Pie and download it too!

It somewhat this, like with design changes (volume bar now appearing in the side and the gesture navbar) you just have to go with them. I kinda don't mind it really.

Pie is meant to be more intuitive with machine learning/AI and suggests apps based on your previous daily activity

It is now several days since the rollout started and there are no unhappy sounds from pixel owners anywhere. Anyone heard of problems?

Not just pixel owners, Essential phone owners like myself received the update at about the same time as pixel owners. I had a Samsung phone, but was sick of the long updates between android releases and Samsung releases so that was one of the drivers to move. So good to get back to vanilla android.

No issues with the update so far.

I updated late yesterday. No problems so far. Chrome was unresponsive for a few seconds in offline mode that seems to have settled down.

Overall I'm liking it. I'm very happy. Feels like less change than 7-8 and nothing to explain. I enabled gestures. The new task switching feels easier with less thumb hand stretching on my XL. Autobright is not perfect yet but working better than ever and they say it will learn.

I heard the 'autorotate' toggle would become 'rotation lock'. I heard the navbar would be removed with gestures enabled. Neither has happened on my device. These are minor disappointments.

Ah. I see. Turn off autorotate, then a rotation lock option appears in the nav bar for any app after an orientation change. Not exactly what I expected but useful anyway.

The text selection automagnifier made the quote selection easier.

No problems here after a few days. Only annoyance is with the adaptive brightness being a bit dark sometimes but guess it'll get better over time with more machine learning etc.

I wish Pixel phones were more legitimately available here.

I think the Pixel 2 XL would suit me well but PB Tech (who I trust) only seem to have the non-2 version of the XL and the other retailers who have it err a bit more to the Dark Side for my taste.
