Hi everyone,

mini-gbwelly will be soon traveling home via bus after school and will need a cell phone. I don't want to spend $500 on a phone which may be in perilous danger of being broken on a daily basis though.

What would you guys recommend in the ~$200ish range?

I don't want to go second hand, and will need it to be available locally (so no dse/kogan for me)

Thanks in advance smile

We got a Meizu M5S for my 10 year old. So far it's survived all the abuse it had thrown at it over the last year. You can get them from PBTech.

Purchased a Redmi Note 5 Pro for my partner for $285 NZD via Gear*Best and I am well impressed with it. Worth a look I reckon.

Note: My work ph is an S8 and sure its better - but not 3 or 4 times better as the price difference would suggest.

Another good value option is the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite

See specs here:

On sale at AliExpress from NZ$231.59

I bought one last week; very happy.

Has Android One so you get pure android (no bloatware) and regular android updates from Google.

Can have 32GB/3GB Ram or 64GB/4GB RAM. Eight core, 2.0 GHz processor. Exceptional value for money. If this was an iPhone you'd be paying 3 times this price.

AliExpress has always been reliable for me.
