Geektastic:

For some reason, the phone seems to be trying to get the download from the Galaxy Store, which is an odd place to get a system update.

Ah yes, this is new.  Samsung has done a lot of work splitting out there updates from google android updates.  A lot of samsungs "add in's" can now be push via there galaxy store (i.e. always on display).  This can be done now because of project treble in android 8 and 9

I spent about 2 hours in live chat with Samsung trying to fix the not updating updates.

Eventually it necessitated a complete backup then a factory reset...wow. What a PITA that was.

It'll be days before I am happy that I have the phone set up as it was even though I restored from the backup. That said, the fingerprint access is blindingly fast now in comparison to what it was.

Which explains why I haven't received any update despite me trying the update software button every few hours LOL

The first time i got a system update via galaxy store it took me by surprise as well, I hit the install button, it downloaded the update and rebooted.  Just wait, it will turn up

Just a heads up for anyone who purchased an s10e from Noel leeming in the last week, after asking nicely they just refunded me $300 (difference between the $1299 bundle deal I paid a few days ago, and the lower advertised price of $999 today).

What a hassle. Hope I don't end up having to do that!

You're not wrong. I'm still discovering horrors. It's forgotten every log in. It reset my Galaxy Watch, without asking, and wiped the entire afternoon's exercise records.

All the 2FA apps that join my Mac calendar and contacts will need new one time password created in iCloud.

And so on.

Avoid it if you can.

At $999, that's about half the price of the inferior iPhone XS.

I am shocked that the price has dropped that much on a new phone. Especially Samsung.

lol as someone who owns the S10+ S10e and XS Max what a load of crap. I know you hate Apple but don’t kid yourself, I can compare them both side by side which you can’t. The S10e is a great device worth every penny and imo I could easily recommend it over the S10+ because of what you get for price but it’s not a flagship killer, I’d call it an alternative.

I use the s10 and mrs the 8 plus. Both have their pros and cons in every single category and I cannot say which is better. Depends entirely on what the user prioritizes over the disadvantages.

I know 100%the s10 is for me and the iPhone 100%is what my Mrs needs.

Have installed the update but jury still out if it improves the finger print scanner.

Not on mine - it's dramatically improved.

However, as a result of the palaver referred to above, I did have to reset my phone and that meant I had to log all new fingerprints. I do not know if that had anything to do with the improvement.

Mine installed smoothly from the update notification, no reset or new finger print registration involved. After installation fingerprint unlock improved significantly and immediately.
