I see that you are all enjoying the Kool-Aid.

With those blinkers on, I'm surprised you can see anything at all!

On the contrary, I can see perfectly including all those EFTPOS terminals which have stickers on saying "no paywave" or "no credit"

All these services are not provided for the likes of you and me, they are there so the suppliers such as the banks and Apple can cream some money off the top of each and every transaction and the poor schmuck who pays at the end of the day?

The retailer.

As someone who has used virtual for ages this feels like a....downgrade?

Where as I was sure my phone would work anywhere that had paywave, now I have to look out for GPay stickers?

Am I wrong here?

Pretty sure it's all Paywave, Gpay stickers were just marketing to raise the profile of GPay and make retailers appear 'up with the tech'. I've had GPay for a few weeks and have had no trouble using it at the usual places I used ASB virtual before

Yes, it's just paywave, but a google implementation.

Tried it and it worked fine. No different from ASB app, still had card read error on the first try which I was hoping it would fix. ended up with a notification which I will have to look into how to turn off sometime.

Does mobile data need to be turned on to use this or just NFC?

So confirmed it's not possible to add a card to ASB virtual anymore in the 8 days remaining before it stops working for good? Never got around to trying it before they made the new Google Pay version

I'm still finding this WAY faster and a huge upgrade.

The one thing that bothers me a tad from the ASB Implementation is the requirement to turn on the screen for Google pay to work.

Probably just a setting somewhere...

No it's all paywave, I used it yesterday and worked fine at a cafe that only had paywave.

@nickb800: And if you have your loyalty cards stored on an app like stocard, then you've already got you phone out at point of sale. That's why I like it.

I don't even bother with a third party app, Google Pay allows you to store loyalty cards too.

Google Pay, Apple Pay. Is all Paywave.

Paywave is the implementation on the credit card network side. Google Pay, Apple Pay are the client side.

Any way to stop the GPay pop-up from appearing when a payment is made?  I've turned off the 'notify me when I make a transaction' or whatever it is called, but still have the credit card image and a big tick appear when paying.

Interesting.

Today I went to the supermarket and realised there I had forgotten my Wallet. no worries I thought I had recently set up google pay on my ASB.

I tried it as a test last week and for some reason it didnt accept. But today it worked. Yes had to turn on the screen it seems.

Not that I would use it often but it saved my bacon today shall we say.

Agree having the screen on is a pain.

But agree it's much faster, shame Google now get to snoop on every transaction.
