Dial111:

Supero looks like the better deal, I'd much rather the 256gb/12gb variant for $10 more then PBTechs 128gb/8gb offering with the headphones.

100% agreed. Not sure what the obsession is with local warranty. I have used warranty a total of 1 time in my 15 years of owning smartphones.

Everyone has a different risk appetite.

For most people it is also cheaper not to insure their car and self insure over their lifetime. If you can take the risk and you're happy to manage this you can do it. It doesn't make it right for everyone.

Seems there prices have gone back up, Im sure the 128/8gb Pro was $1150 2 weeks back.

$1649 is too much for the Op8P imo. Each to their own. They have some good hardware but its got to be below the p40pro imo, with apps being mostly rehashed rubbish. outside a drive app, things like camera apps will be built into the p40. Its by far a better camera.

I love the op8p but not for over $1200 for the base model. It has its imperfections and its far from the best camera (or the worst).

ummm your logic is flawed my friend, Supero is also an NZ based company and has 1 year warranty. its just not a physical local store, so warranty is a bit more time consuming to ship back and forth.  So your example should be rephrased - you can pay a premium and insure your car with the insurance company that has physical stores in shopping malls, or pay much less and insure with a company thats online only.

At the end of the day everyone does have a choice. I would buy from PB too, IF the price was equal to or at least comparable. but when its 250 more, AND it doesnt have a warp charger, it makes no sense whatsoever - to me.

Touch wood, I’ve never had to warranty a phone ever since the Galaxy S3 but then again I don’t usually hold a phone long enough for it to usually fail.

Without a true local presence enforcing your rights can be challenging. While they claim CGA coverage the uneven application of this by reputable local organisations makes dealing with online only a significant risk compared to a physical store.

If Supero says "No, we won't honour the CGA" what are your chances of getting them to cover it compared to PB Tech? Not much.

This has value for many people, if not for you.

Perhaps you have dealt with some dodgy companies before, but I have purchased many times from companies like supero, mobile station and the like in the last decade and have recommended them to friends as well. Neither me nor any of my friends have any issues of the type you are describing. There are definitely dodgy companies for sure, but specifically supero is a very good one from past experience.

Anyway, I'm not arguing with what you are saying, of course the preference is to buy local. But as I said, when it's 20 percent more expensive, and doesn't have warp charge, it doesn't make sense - again, to me.

Now I'm thinking maybe I should buy from Supero. I have a Nokia 7+ which is on its last limbs. I'm buying the Oneplus8Pro mainly for battery and camera but conceded with a few people on this thread saying the camera is bad.

Do you think it ll be better than my Nokia7+?

Ps. 2weeks delivery from PBtech is so long!

My god, who has said the camera is bad? 😂 It is one of the best around, whoever has said it is bad must be high on something. just watch some reviews yourself on youtube, dont trust mine or someone else's opinion. see for yourself.

It will defnitely be a massive upgrade for you.

I suggest you search CGA on the search function. You will see how many many companies avoid their obligations and try and railroad consumers. It's retty much standard operating procedure for most companies to try and avoid their legal obligations either through ignorance or active avoidance.

One thing that people seem to be forgetting is that the PB Tech have the international version, not the CN one. This means that it has band 28 4g/LTE.

This is important as it is used a lot in low coverage areas and also gives better coverage inside buildings etc.

With the CGA, is there a consensus on how long a phone should 'reasonably' last? A search on here shows people saying anything from 2 to 5 years...

Band 28 is dependent on your carrier. I'm with 2D, so I'm not too concerned since they're mainly band 3.

If I was with anyone else though, sure, I'd probably be leaning more towards the PB stock.

The elephant in the room though is whether OnePlus would enable 5G in NZ down the line. I'm also looking to keep mine for at least 2 years, but we'll see how that develops in a year.

Hey guys

I'm new here but I've been reading the forum over the last couple of days in anticipation of getting a OP8 but not wanting to get the Chinese module etc. I'm in NZ but will most likely be moving to the UK in next year or so so it made sense for me to hold out on getting the global version.

So I just ordered the OP8 off pbtech. While it costs more than Supero etc I can get it on Interest free which also was a reason to go through them. Not having the super fast charger doesn't bother me (I only charge my phone at night anyway) and I'm always near a computer or USB to get some quick charge into the thing.

I know you might ask why I didn't go for the OP8P....it all comes down to $$$. $1200 is still a lot of money for a phone for me...i'm only upgrading from a Redmi Note 7.

Looking forward to receiving my phone from PBtech. Will update you all when it comes through!

But thanks to you all from contributing to this forum...the chatter in here made me realise that I definitely wanted a Oneplus!
