$1800 on the Mobile Station website is very good for the 12GB version, and they appear to have a store front in Penrose, tempting....

Wow, $1900? No chance. Samsung and Apple barely get away with being able to charge that, OnePlus sure as hell aren't.

Given that you've said you're not interested in the OnePlus range I'm not sure why you care?

Why wouldn't I? It's another overpriced handset on the market, like Samsung and Apple have done with OnePlus, it'll entice another OEM to increase their pricing further.

Can't call it overpriced until we understand the cost base for
the key componentss such as 5g sd865 soc, 1440p 120hz screen, 12gb LDPPR5 ram, 256gb chip, camera modules etc. OnePlus won't be making any more gold on these than they will have on prior models.

Hello, recently moved to NZ and in dire need of a new phone having a Nokia 7+ last me for 1-2 years (dodgy charging port...)

What are the best reputable stores I can but the One Plus 8 Pro from? Is PB Tech the best one? Anyone know when this will become available?

Shame I can't see any deals with the device if bought SIM Free.

Thanks!

Yes PBtech would be the best place to buy it from.  NikT said "soon" normally its a month or so but with the virus etc currently could be a little bit longer.  Maybe @nikt could give us an update on when we may see it in Pbtech

GSMArena has published their review of the 8 Pro. Looks like a solid all-round phone, battery life is pretty good too for 1440p@120hz.

I guess the price is going to be the interesting thing here, if it sells around the S20+ mark (which can be had for around $1499 with carrier discounts currently, you would have to try really hard to pay the $1899 RRP for it), it might be an interesting proposition. Approaching $2k, and especially without the fast wired or wireless chargers, there are plenty of other competitors; you would really have to want to buy a OnePlus phone.

Good point, I'd forgotten about the bundles PBTech usually put together. If I am remembering correctly though, that is usually something the OEM has to come to the party on?

I would think that something like one of the headphone bundle packs would make it attractive, I'm gutted it wasn't an option when I got my current phone. Or even a compatible 3rd party fast charger etc

Even $1500 and missing those two pretty awesome features, would be really hard to justify. Needs to come in around $1299 TBH. It's a shame we aren't getting the V60 as that sounded like, if priced correctly, it would be a really solid cost effective phone.

so you think this is a lesser phone than even the base s20? which is $1498ish or the s20+ at $1850ish

The 8 pro is retailing for 30 pounds more than than the s20 plus.

you seem to forget that it may be missing (not really missing though) a few things but its also better in other aspects.

It does compete with the S20+, and at the same time doesn't. You aren't going to be cross shopping these two by preferences for OS, as they couldn't be more different styles. But taken as the sum of their parts, as Jase2985 said, they do trade blows.

Samsung's camera implementation is pretty top notch, whereas Oneplus's seems to be fairly passing grade (going by reviews). The Snapdragon SoC is gonna handily beat the Exynos in anything compute or graphically intensive. The 8 Pro, through some weird twist of economics, has a more capable Samsung panel than the S20. Samsung seems to be really upping their game for monthly security updates, but it sounds like long term, OP will have more updates. And so on...

While the V60 enjoys a better price point, they did have to cut a few corners to get there though: one thing being the 60hz 1080p panel. Which if you aren't gonna miss is fine, but its not really competing with the above devices then.

I do wonder if the whole SD865/X55 combo has been a bit of price increase for a few of the OEMs, as it seems like quite a few devices sporting it are stepping up into that flagship pricepoint

Most of the reviews I have seen say that overall the S20 camera is ok without being great. Good in some situations, pretty average in others - much the same as the OnePlus 8.

im guessing it market dependent, USA maybe.

But its only the 8 Pro 12GB/256GB that comes in that colour.

"The OnePlus 8 Pro is available in three colors; Glacial Green, Onyx Black and Ultramarine Blue. In the UK you’ll only be able to pick the 8 Pro up in the green and black hues, while we’re still waiting to hear which colors will be available in other countries."
