m1dday:

Yeah you're probably right, just a lot of wishful thinking on my part really, but as reference their OnePlus 6 listing says it explicitly while the 8 doesn't.

to be fair the current ad is garbage

and noels used to take out the included charger out of the pox and put a crappy NZ one in. would much rather they leave the included one there and just give you a compliant NZ one

Probably something to keep in mind about the super fast charging modes. Great if you want a quick boost in a pinch once in a while, but I would assume the average consumer doesn't pay much attention to the *its gonna fook your battery if you do it ere'day son.

So i received mine a couple days ago from Supero. and my GOD what a device this is. Coming from the latest flagships to this (Note10+,S20Ultra and every other toy out there), this thing is a piece of art. the color, the screeen, smoooooooooooothness, its just next level. Camera is definitely better than note 10+ and on par if not better than my s20 ultra. enjoying it very much.

that looks sooo damn good. any other posts you have showcasing the phone? run into any issues with it or things that you think could be improved?

do you have the screen issues, the black crush and the green tint ones?

also does it have both 5g modes enabled (NSA and SA) and 5G mmWave and sub-6 GHz ?

BTW what 5g is in NZ?

I'd say NSA with sub 6 as far as VF 5G is concerned, please correct me if I am wrong.

Also only the Verizon version of the 8/8Pro will have mmWave hardware built in, the rest will only have sub 6.

They are all import versions, there is no NZ version of the plug/phone.

Retailers have to sell it with a NZ wall adapter, not just a travel adapter.

Some will give you both which still complies with NZ regulations. but they cant just sell it with the travel adapter

@mahdibassam what adapters did you get with the phone?

mmwave is the real 5g (SA) right? provides higher bandwidth, while the sub6 is utilizing existing 4g network. Why mmwave not enabled in all. They use the same x55 modem and modem supports both? just bit confused, if you are spending money on 5g phone, ideally you would want both compatibility. Is there any phone which supports both ?

Its probably the most beautiful phone i have owned since the HTC One days - although this is completely subjective. Attached 2 more photos of the phone (i am a photography enthusiast so just took these when i received the phone haha).

So far it has been perfect in every sense. Smoothest software as expected with Oneplus. Gorgeous display with 120hz AND QHD resolution at the same time unlike my S20 ultra which is only 60hz at QHD. Battery life better than my note10plus and s20plus even though im running full res and 120hz. after a few days of use and playing around with the camera, i can definitely say its better than s20/note20 especially with video. Curiously enough, performance has been much better than even S20Ultra. i can tell the difference in small things like updating apps from play store and day to day interactions.

Overall extremely happy. now just waiting for all the acessories i ordered to arrive!

No issues with the screen at all so far. looks better than Samsung screens, which is ironic because Samsung makes the screen for Oneplus :D

Not sure how i can check which 5G modes are enabled? im with 2degrees anyway so no 5g (and no sign any time soon by the looks of it which sucks).

mmWave gives technically the highest speed yes, but due to the higher frequencies (>24ghz), it also quite short range and easily blocked by buildings, walls, people etc; it only really makes sense for a heavily urban area where the required transmitter density can be achieved to give good coverage, both indoors and out.

It also requires a special antenna module in the phone as well, which some OEMs have neglected to include to keep costs down in markets where it doesn't exist yet and probably won't for its lifecycle. And if you want to use the SD 865, you're gonna need a separate modem and Qualcomm only offers the X55 currently.

The exact high band frequencies still have to be nailed down as well; the government was due to auction off short term rights to the 3.5ghz to allow telcomms to roll out sub-6 5g networks this year, but no mention of higher bands. Vodafone already had existing 3.5 ghz spectrum allocation, so (TIL) that's how they were able to get the jump on everyone else.

TL;DR don't buy a phone for its 5g capabilities now

because im quiet keen on the phone and specifically asked them what you get with it. and they said a NZ charger.

im not keen to support a business who blatantly flouts the laws by selling something illegally. so ill wait to find someone who is selling it with the required accessories.
