I've ordered the Ultra
Looks like the Samsung education store has the Ultra 4g at $1574 and the 5g at $1724!
Tempted. Might have to go and see a live unit to see how bad that camera bulge is! 😅
They seem to be sticking to the same strategy as last year of downgrading the base model to try to justify the higher price of the Ultra (I will 'note' Samsung is not alone in doing this though). We were having the same complaints last year though, so it must be working for them. Although, the N10+ was available at the same price as the N20 5g.
I know Galaxy S and Note buyers are two different audiences, but making the obvious comparison to the the S20+, you really are paying a premium for that S-pen. Only a FHD+ 60hz screen, same cameras, less RAM, slightly smaller battery. Guess we will have to wait until the reviews to see if the refinements made (if any) add up to a difference.
Which pretty much leaves the Ultra as the flagship experience, if you can manage the price. Although you have to pay extra for that 5g edition to get to the full 12GB RAM, that even the base S20 comes with. And you are still stuck with the same "will they/won't they" WQHD+ OR 120hz screen.
I find it hard to use a 60hz screen now, so it's not really much of a choice for me, but it really sucks that you are asked to pay "No compromises" money for a compromised experience, when other manufacturers using Samsung supplied panels don't seem to have the same problem AND at lesser price-points. But really, if you want the 'Note' experience, then there is nothing else that really competes, at least until foldables start making their way down to the mainstream market.
Anandtech has a nice breakdown of both models.

So the note 20 ultra 5g is 1724? thats pretty good! im assuming it doesnt include any bonuses or bundles?
Dial111: I watched a comparison video of the Note 20 Ultra and the S20 Ultra, now throughout the video he was comparing spec for spec and it was a whitewash to the Note 20 Ultra (bar the compromises which ended up being logically explained i.e lower ram but faster UFS 3.1) but right at the end the caveat was the improvements were subtle in the grand scheme of things.
I walked away confused, you sold me on a Note 20 Ultra for 95% of the video only to have me think the S20 Ultra is the better phone for the money spent right at the end.
Haha this is why I have a hard time watching some YouTubers, as you can get caught up with their disproportionate excitement and gloss over the finer parts. Harder to do in print, I guess.
A few more interesting points in this Ars Technica article, the N20 will use a plastic back and GG 5 on the front, while the N20U gets the new GG Victus front and back.

Exynos chipset. Thumbs down from me.
Unfortunately this was going to be a given, but it does leave you a bit salty when the US is getting the 865+ upgrade.
The big question for me is this...
"Is the Note 20 Ultra 5G $2300 better than my current Note9?"
To any rational person, the answer is pretty obvious - but I'm sure they will sell a boat load anyway for reasons I just can't comprehend.

Yeah no bonuses/bundles/price matching etc.
AND you do need to have a valid student id verified account.
But if it is just the phone you are after it's a pretty good deal for release day.

But will you say f*** it, and just go and buy it anyway?
I'm not gonna lie; if you judge every purchase by that metric, you will end up a lot wealthier, but you will lead a very un-interesting life. And "add value to me / my life" is a an extremely subjective metric.
But this isn't a thread for the philosophy of FMCG purchases.
WolfChop: My poor wallet is crying.
That's what the interest-free MRO is for haha.
I see there was an interesting tid-bit from Unpacked as well, apparently starting from the S10, we will now get 3 major OS updates.
@gehenna what color and version did you end up with?

LOL What if you are on the - had a s6 edge/couldn't wait too long bought A50/didn't like s20/kinda like the note20 ultra boat?
I think using a phone for about 3 years is good use... so can see the appeal of guarantees to OS upgrades.
