My current phone died so I had to revert to my previous phone which a custom ROM.

Some apps I used detect root and won't install so I use Magisk to hide root. That works well.

But I was surprised that while the phone passed SafetyNet (so Google was OK), the McDonald's refused to install since it detected root, even though I had it hidden using Magisk.

If this were a bank I can understand it but McDonalds?  What are they worrying about?

In the end it appeared it was detecting the name of the Magisk manager so there is an option to internally rename it and then I could take advantage of those McDonald's specials :-)

Ichiu7: What are they worrying about?

They're fussy about chips?

Rooted phones may not have a hamburger menu?

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I wonder if that is because they built their Monopoly game into their app instead of a separate one last time?

Possibly its relying on some client side stuff that if it was manpulated would let you get cheaper or free food ordered? Seen some pretty terrible things done by developers and this might be their way to protect against you just editing the order to say its paid or something.

Im not sure what the deal is but I recall it did not like my unrooted NZ purchased Xiaomi Note 10 phone either. Very picky application unfortunately.

I don't think you can order from the app. It just displays specials for the day and a QR code that often they can't even read and so manually enter into their point of sale system.

Maybe their devs are just following the guidelines for coding apps.......  and rooted phones fudge up those guidelines ?
