I decided to buy the Oneplus 9 from Amazon Prime Day deal

No idea if the phone will do 5G or VoLTE but that is not a deal breaker for. All the Oneplus 9's I could see locally had no wireless charging and I really want that feature for my car phone holder. One can never tell but if various OnePlus models are can do 5G mahyybe this one can?

But none of the sites that sell OnePlus 9 models in NZ have the model with wireless charging. THis includes PBTech with the Oneplus Nord, and various sites selling the OnePlus 9 like this

All you need a Google account for a Samsung phone is for Play Store. I specifically avoid using any other Google stuff. I prefer the Samsung email client which integrates well with the Samsung calendar.

On the other hand if you want to use GMail etc that's all there too.

All in all the Samsung experience is quite good in my opinion. You don't need a Samsung account unless you want take advantage of things like password storage.

I go the other way. I always advise anyone with a Samsung phone to disable as many of the Samsung apps as possible, particularly email / calendar / contacts.

Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.

I didn't notice that but the Amazon listing for the OnePlus 9 clearly states wireless charging. Reviews have compared the OP9 vs the OP9 Pro and the comment was the OP9 didn't have such fast wireless charging as the OP9 Pro (15 versus 50 watts) but I just wanted wireless so I could dock my phone in my car holder and have it charge without having to plug it in.

I have wondered if EU/NA wireless charging is compatible with chargers available in NZ.

I'm a bit mystified why you would do this. For me these are a core part of the functionality of a phone for me. The OEM version of these apps (in this case Samsung) ensures proper integration between them. For example sending an email you have access to contacts. If you receive a calendar invite via email it can flow directly into your calendar.

I've had devices with the basic Android set up where the only option was the standard G apps and as I don't use and don't want any Google integration I had to install third party apps which meant very poor integration between these core apps.

In my experience the best experience I've had has been with the OEM core apps by far.
