Not sure where you saw these watches but I was told the ECG/BP/Body measurements was all there for New Zealand. I can ask to confirm though.

Yes please I'd be keen to know too.

I was looking at the watch5 pro yesterday, i feel a little ripped off however as it still does not have ecg etc for NZ (without having to mod files etc).  Paying this much money (around the same if not more than other countries that have ecg etc) just feels like they are taking the pi** when they have disabled parts of the watch.

That would be great thanks

Saw it at a release party yesterday at a telco

Does anyone know if there's devices available in store to have a play?

heavenlywild: Ah my bad, missed that.

All good. While looking at the LTE option for the Watch 5 I found out that 2Degrees have launched their eSIM service to busines users and will open to all at the end of this month. This is great, makes the LTE option more viable.

This is correct, consumer is due later this month.

This does not mean a wearable esim plan is ready.  Currently esim is only for supported phones

@heavenlywild @tripp

Here's the official reply from Samsung: “BP/ECG are not available in NZ yet since they need to be certified by the government. The samples that we have loaned were all from Korea, not the selling SKUs in NZ, so they might have those features on it as default.”

Bummer. Thanks for confirming.

Looks like sideloading is the only option.

Yep. Good old health bureaucrats, good enough for other countries but not here. Each time I use the (side loaded) BP/ECG on my GW4 it shows a disclaimer that it doesn’t replace a medical device and not to alter medication without advice.

I hear You can go your own way (Fleetwood Mac) playing in the background.

Interesting to see that Huawei watches have had SpO2 for a while and now have ECG and BP as well.

Withings Scanwatch have had ECG and SpO2 as well.

It's about the company submitting the devices for approval.

It's totally this, samsung doesn't really give 2 sh**s about NZ when it comes to things like this.  If apple, Huawei, Withings etc can submit the device for approval then what the hell is holding up NZ etc.  Its been a year now that they have had watch4 out and still no ETA on it or anything.  Yet we still pay the full price of for a device that they have crippled.

Another example is their OS "betas" there has never been a way for NZ to signup to these.  Always other markets etc.

Fold4 pre ordered from Vodafone turned up yesterday. First foldable upgraded from s20 ultra.

Really loving the massive screen - kind of brings back the excitement I remember when I was younger and got a new phone.

Having to use it without a case since no one seems to have any in stocks yet - ordered a spigen case when the pre order announcement came out but hasn't arrived yet. So that kind of scares me.

No issues at all though, only minor annoyance is it comes with two text messaging apps. Samsung messenger and Google messenger, both with the same name and similar blue logo. Was able to disable the Google one but samsung one cannot be disabled. Just nit picking but the chat features on the samsung app has never worked for me, whereas it works fine on the Google app. Same with my old s20.

Overall highly recommended to anyone considering a folding phone - if you can get past the fear of dropping it.

If only you could choose operating systems and phones independently.

I’d love a Fold running iOS.

It would need to be “iOS for foldables”. There is just enough optimisation in One UI for foldables to be noticeable. Particularly in the “Labs” section.

Without re-litigating any Android vs iOS discussion, unless you are sitting completely within the walled garden, there is very little difference in usability these days (This as I use an Android phone (Fold3), an iPad and a Windows desktop).

A question for the users/pending users of the Fold.

What's the use case that convinced you to buy it?

I'm due for a new device .... I've had a play with the Fold4 ... it's undoubtedly cool .... but I need a nudge to tip me over the edge to shell out the dosh
