My Pixel 7 Pro arrived today, and I'm SMITTEN.

It's silky smooth, super responsive, Gorgeous in the black, as is the official case.

Can't believe how fast the fingerprint sensor is compared to the S20FE - the S20FE feels like it's sending a fax compared to the P7P.

VoLTE is working for me in Whanganui, will go for a drive as soon as the phones finished setting up and all my apps are installed/updated etc - to see if I get a 5G signal, i'm in a 5G deadzone where I live.

I'm still waiting on Amazon. It's said "Arriving November 18th" for a while now, so I'll keep my fingers crossed. I know I'm just being impatient, but I'm jealous of everyone else having it already and wish I had friends in Aus instead of Canada ($799 Canadian remains stubbornly JUST over $1000 NZD).

Sooo... No 5G connection in Whanganui at all, and I went into the local Spark store and asked them about it -they said Spark *will* have 5G going on Pixel phones next year.

How much truth there is in that, I don't know, but I'm not too worried, the coverage is so thin it's barely worth me worrying about.

Probably.

They're all liars anyway.

Why are 5G and VoLTE not supported? Does it cost the carrier too much?

OK so i've pulled the trigger from Expansys and have requested a US model since they say they have both US and Japan market stock. Due back in stock Nov 11. I'll update when it arrives. I accept the lack of VoLTE and 5G. There was a $55 customs declaration form fee which was a surprise but good not to have to worry about it!

I considered Bexcetech but based on the reviews and its chequered history I decided that it was not worth the gamble given it was non-specific about GST etc.

I got a Ringke case from Gadgets Online NZ which has a local store so seems legit. It seems like a good option.

Nope, unfortunately, not that I'd ever use it.

I am waiting for mine from Expansys and yesterday had an email from DHL that I need a Customs customers client code. They sent a link that gave an easy to fill in pdf, that was automatically processed. Suprising!

CUSTOMS DETAILS REQUIRED TO CLEAR YOUR SHIPMENT

Hello netspanner,   Your DHL Express shipment with waybill number ******* from EXPANSYS requires an NZ Customs Client Code as the value exceeds $1000 NZD.

Nothing to do with the carrier - doesn't cost the carrier anything for the Pixel 7 to support VoLTE or 5G. Nothing to do with the hardware either - the same modem is used in other phones that support 5G and VoLTE here and in most other countries too.

The issue is purely one of software. Google maintains a whitelist of carriers that get to have VoLTE and 5G enabled and for the most part this whitelist consists of carriers that exist in the very few countries where Google sells Pixel phones. Apparently Spark gets VoLTE support because they have some kind of roaming agreement with some US Telco and for a Spark SIM card to work in the USA it would have to get VoLTE permissions.

Basically this is just your usual Google incompetence - I don't see any other legitimate excuse for these issues at this point. They've has been at this for 7 years, and they've been making the most widely used mobile OS for twice that long. With their resources these problems, and the general lack of world-wide availability of the Pixel, should have been fixed years ago.

Where do you find this setting? I just got my P7 yesterday. I love it!

After all the complaints about how big it is its only a little bigger than my P2 with its case
