ChillingSilence: I'd be really keen to hear the thoughts of some owners 9-10 days later :) Especially from a technical perspective too, not just an Apple / Google fanboy perspective ;)

I started a thread just for that since I have had mine since last Tuesday

My Google Nexus One arrived this morning. Tuesday 19th. Un boxed it, put in battery (something you can't do on an iphone), checked volted spec on charger, is 110-240v, found adaptor and plugged in too charge.

Damn been 5 minutes and charge light still not turned green.
5min 30sec charge light still not green, arggggggg! how long will I have to wait!
new toy, new toy, want to play, want to play!

On another note now a few of us have got our N1's does anyone (maybe jamesyb0i), want to write a definitive post step by step on How to get a nexus one via say shipito, with tips like how to avoid state sales tax when ordering and what to put on customs declaration etc. to minimise total cost of phone.

jamesyb0i: just once :S ah well scanning in some ID now |-(  They also want me to download, print, fill in and sign, a form and then get it signed by a notary public. This is proving to be very inconvenient! >.<

jamesyb0i

The 1583 form did they accept a scanned completed form or did you have to post it, or fax it.  As it say they will only accept posted originals?

I take it that you just scanned and attached the other forms of ID.

I scanned the form and signed it myself, as well as some ID and credit card and proof of address (just normal scanner) but they personally asked for print screen of google receipt.

AND MY PHONE HAS NOW ARRIVED, VIDEOS COMING SOON!

Just to confirm

They accepted the scanned 1583, by email attachment or direct upload of file, i.e. they did not insist on a mailed (snail mail original) original?

Also the print screen receipt, was this printed off then scanned to or screen captured to file and attached? Or did not matter as long as they got a screen image?

Also package phone come in, do they repack, hope so, because my girl friend who received my phone in Arizona said the box was F*#king big with f all in it, and she opened it up. like carry on luggage size.

Ugh......

Just found out that one of mine arrived with a single stuck green pixel about 1/3 of the way down the screen. In the least commercial way possible, its now listed on a popular trading site for cheap-ish if anyone knows anyone who's interested in not having to wait for shipping or customs. The rest of them are fine so far.

Gawd this phone has got to have the slowest charging ever.

Charging since the last one hour and the battery charge has only increased by 15%. This is directly form the wall.

Okay, to clear this up. I sent them via the upload verification tool the following:

Firstly I replied to their email saying I had to authenticate my account with a general question asking what they really wanted, in the meantime I sent them the following:

Notary Page (signed by me) - Scanned (all pages) - only posted originals huh? well... they accepted mine
Passport - Scanned
Drivers Licence, Student ID, Credit Card - Scanned
Proof of Address x2 - Scanned
Print screen (Paste into paint, save as .PNG) of my ASB Fastnet Bank Account screen (showing my account number and my name, erased the balances)

They got back to me in email saying Photo ID and Google receipt should be fine, So I just print screened the Google Checkout page where it showed my order and its details, and sent that to them in the email reply, as well as my photo ID again just to annoy them some more.

All of this got my account to 70% verified which is good enough for them.

Holy crap... only 100/512mb free with all tasks killed...

Sorry to hear you have a funky pixel on the screen man =(
I accidentally turned my phone on instead of charging it initially, so I've had it stuck in the crappy micro usb (prefer miniusb). So far so good, home screen is definitely laggier than my magic, the feel of the phone isn't as nice as my magic either; the touchscreen is more grippy and picks up fingerprints - only reason that I might get a zagg skin in future.

My only gripe is that video playback is severely laggy, both on youtube and on viewing video playback from video camera. I dont know why this is happening and i'm not too worried about it right now but if it turns out to be a long term issue i think im the only one!

Also the phone seems designed for phone calls so much more so than texting, e.g if you tap someones name there is no option to send a text. instead you long press and then an option appears. or tap their avatar and an icon appears. meh. there's just some things that Sense UI does damn good :D

Totally agree, it takes forever to charge!  My old Nokia charged from dead in about 45 minutes, this one takes hours!

I got a Zagg skin, sort of. I stopped by the Zagg booth at CES and asked if they had a skin yet but they said not for a week or so. But they gave me a sheet of Zagg material which they were using to show how strong it is and cut down lengthwise it fit nicely on the N1. I am now wondering though, does this skin reduce the sensitivity of the touch surface?

Yeah I read your post about that, It doesn't reduce sensitivity in the slightest I assure you. I text on my magic with zagg skin and I barely even come into contact with the screen. You wouldn't happen to have any spare sheeting would ya? XD

So guys, what is the final damage, cost wise? I know I have asked this before, but now that customs and shipping are all worked out, what does it come to?

I'm still keen to buy one, but might wait a few months and if I do, will purchase while I am still in the UK before I return to NZ. Just trying to work out NZ cost vs UK cost - I think they will be surprisingly close in the end (with VAT over here being 17.5%).

$800 before import tax for me.... Customs opened mine (Its a box within an oversized box) and left a leaflet saying they inspected my goods, funny thing is... the leaflet was right on top of the Google receipt, which clearly shows $529USD. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm..

Read somewhere that the current kernel only supports upto 256MB of ram. This limit will be raised in android 2.2
