I got the official confirmation email that my HTC Desire has been dispatched - Wahoo!  3-7 days for delivery, plus customs.  Hopefully here by Friday but likely the following Monday I reckon before it's in my hands.

Please stop bugging them, the more of your inquiries they have to answer the longer it'll take for them to get to my order!!!! I only ordered on Wednesday so I'm sure it'll be far down the list. :-(

Hi all,

Anyone know if the battery is changeable like the N1. Gotta say I love my N1, but the Desire does look tempting :-)

hey Jim,
Since I had not received any information from my initial order ( ie notification of the various delays  etc)  I phoned them. I was not "bugging" them. On the conrary, I'd not received ANY information that they had indeed received the order and monies for some time, let alone when/if they were going to ship the phone. I am also not receiving any updates regarding the delays... the first I knew about delays was from this forum, then once again for the stock arrival.
So yep I phoned them to find out what was happening with my phones

Now back to our regular programme....
bigMal, you recon friday ...hope so too. when I ordered the n95 it was weeks in customs before they released it .. go slow I recon. Fingers crossed .
yes the desire has a swappable battery, 1400mAh.
I seem to remember that you can now get an upgraded batery ...same size for the nexus  that would of course fit the Desire.

Battery life seems to be the one consistent thing a with reviewers that they dont rave about, as ever it depends upon ones expectations  from the device.1.5 days  seems to be average with light usage down to 1 day with hevier usage. fine for me...charge up at night and have a charger int he car/laptop usb charge lead means  im never ar away from a quick boot.

I hope this was an exception, haven't seen too many other posters who've imported phones mention unreasonable dealys getting parcels through customs.

I'm really not too sure about the process for invocing .. I think that I received the customs bill after I received the phone.
I realy had  no idea as to why the phone was delayed  that long... heres hoping tha there will not be a delay

Question:

If I had a friend or family member living in the UK, would it be possible to get the device delivered to them, then sent from them to me as a "gift" and avoid customs charges?

Or is that a big no-no and could lead to more problems than its worth if customs decided to open the package?

I was looking to do the same thing, however  clove would have to charge VAT and then shipping VAT plus the potential for import duty... worked out to be cheaper to ship direct. I'd be surprised if there is not some clause that over a certain amount there is still some form of tax.(import duty or otherwise.) gift or otherwise :(

As far as I Know, 2 degrees just piggybacks off vodafone, which is 900/2100  though I could be wrong about that.
