Interesting as HTC is a taiwanese company has anyone investigated what prices they are out of that country as the source is usually cheaper?

I'm originally from Taiwan, and have been following their HTC prices closely.

What strikes me as weird is that the Desire isn't even available yet. I was going to get my cousin to get me one, but since it's not even available in Taiwan, decided on Clove instead.

The Legend is around $700-750NZD at the moment in Taiwan though.

Seems like the UK is the centre of the universe when it comes to phone releases, well until the EVO 4g from HTC  gets released. I'm surprised that there is not a gsm/3G variant being released. Strange that the Desire is not available in Taiwan, probably made  there too!!...

I'd love to work at htc though....
heres  to looking forward to my Desire arriving ASAP.

re: RevoWution's post on the taiwan option, I am a little wary of S.E.Asian sourced HTC phones (not where they are manufactured but the market they are destined for) because the Hero I bought was a Indonesia, Malaysia, Phillipines(?) one and its version of Android/SenseUI didn't include Market.  In the end I rooted the phone and loaded a UK HTC ROM which included Market access (all good since).  For that reason alone importing a Desire from the UK is sounding more and more appealing...
As Bendigo alluded to earlier in the thread, if you are considering an Australian Telstra HTC Desire (available from the end of the month), which I believe will operate on the XT network here, it is being advertised for outright purchase at AUD779.  If you pick one up as a tourist you are able to claim the GST back via the Tourist Refund Scheme they have at the airports.  That will at least ease the pain of the GST payable on coming back into NZ.
AUD779 becomes AUD709 which converts to $NZD925+GST so about $NZD1040.

The UK version appears to be GBP375 shipped (DHL) which is approx $NZD805+GST so about $NZD908.

The reason I did the comparison is I go to Oz quite frequently for business and wanted to see if that was a better avenue, clearly it isn't.  (Come on Telecom here's your chance to get something to compete with the iPhone!)

The price difference and the fact of moving networks (I don't really need a phone that will work sitting on a container in the Hauraki Gulf but can't be relied on south of Taupo Undecided) makes the UK option even better.

I look forward to GZers who have taken the plunge posting their experiences and impressions of the Desire (suppressed jealousy).

I'm not too sure if you can order from this site (and I'm not sure if they do international shipping), but you can have a look at:

Umm...this may have been discussed elsewhere but I can't seem to find anything.

I noticed some of you have purchased Desire from Clove in the UK. What's the warranty situation on that? If anything goes wrong does it have to be sent back? Sure hope not...

Clove states the warranty on the page of each product. The Desire says 2 yrs International Warranty. However I don't know anyone who has had to use their warranty.

Here's hoping none of us need to, but I have seen the occasional report of faulty Desires on other blog /social websites.

I notice you have an MBP there - will be interested to hear how well Android interacts with Mac OS X. Then again, that's not really a topic for this thread...perhaps I should start another one...

Cool!  I'm keen to hear your thoughts on the Desire, particularly what the sound quality is like compared to other phones/mp3 players.

Enjoy!
